    Are you detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and passionate about supporting patient care behind the scenes? UPMC Altoona is seeking a full-time Pharmacy ADC Automation Tech I to maintain and optimize our automated drug dispensing systems. This is a hands-on role where precision meets purpose, helping ensure medications are stored, dispensed, and delivered safely and efficiently.

     

    This role blends technical expertise with clinical impact. You'll be the go-to specialist for maintaining Automated Drug Cabinets (ADC), Oral Solid Packagers, Vertical Carousel Storage Cabinets, and C-II Narcotic Safes. From software updates to inventory optimization, your work will directly support pharmacy operations and patient safety. You'll collaborate with pharmacy staff, IT, and nursing teams to keep our systems running smoothly and our medication supply accurate and accessible.

    Purpose:

    Responsible for the maintenance of all Pharmacy automated dispensing devices, related products and software. This includes but on limited to Automated Drug Cabinets (ADC), Oral Solid Packagers, Vertical Carousel Storage Cabinets, Narcotic Storage/Dispensing Cabinets (C-II Safe) Pandora . The Technicians will be responsible and proficient at running required reports, updating software, building storage drawers and all user echelon maintenance. He/she will be reasonable for inventory adjustments in order to reduce the stock outs, reduce dormant medications and add new medications or increase inventory existing drugs. He/she will also be responsible for user maintenance, staff educations to include but not necessarily limited to Nursing, Pharmacy Techs and Pharmacists. The Technician will also need to have a full understanding of how the host interacts with the ADC, and other automated inventory retrieval systems. Responsible for the proper storage and distribution of drugs; receives and accounts for drugs coming from all vendors. Delivers drugs to patient care and other areas; picks up drug returns and applicable paperwork; and puts all returned unit-dose products back to proper receipts. Responsible for filling patient drug boxes, floor stock orders and automated dispensing cabinets. Assists Pharmacists as directed. Maintains daily report.

    Responsibilities:

    + Maintains Users in all systems used as required.

    + Basic understanding of concept of physical stability and chemical stability as it relates to parenteral pharmaceuticals.

    + Builds, updates, moves and revises current automation equipment.

    + Provide staff education to provide for the end users optimization of the product.

    + Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations.

    + Work with IT on Pharmacy Automation/Host issues.

    + Optimize inventory to reduce the number of stock outs.

    + Understands microbial contamination and exhibits Aseptic Technique while preparing sterile pharmaceutical products.

    + Correctly interpret physician orders and can distinguish between pharmaceutical orders, laboratory tests, radiology, nursing and other orders.

    + Prepare correct labeling for bulk drugs.

    + Repackages drugs into unit of use container.

    + Coordinates and schedules manufacturer preventative maintenance.

    + Accurately fills floor stock request.

    + Provide user level maintenance.

    + Selects drugs from stock in proper dose, dosage form and quantity as ordered by physician under direct supervision of a pharmacist.

    + Perform monthly medication storage area inspections.

    Education and Formal Training Required:

    + High school graduate or equivalent required.

    + Must hold current Certified Pharmacist Technician Certification or obtain it within 12 months.

    Experience Required:

    + Must have a minimum of 24 months of Hospital Pharmacy practice experience and worked with Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC).

    + Have completed a national ADC vendors provided training program.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)

    + Act 34
