Posting Description
SENIOR RESEARCH ADMINISTRATOR, Chemical Engineering (ChemE), to work closely with the Assistant Director of Research Administration, Senior Managers of Research Administration, and Senior Research Administrators in performing complex and comprehensive financial management of an assigned portfolio of department’s sponsored research activities including pre-award administration and the development and submission of research proposals for an assigned group of faculty; perform post-award administration by monitoring the financial performance of grants and contracts to ensure compliance with MIT policies and various sponsor requirements; and serve as the primary informational resource for advising an assigned group of faculty and staff on matters pertaining to sponsored research administration; serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of faculty regarding financial management and administration of research activity; advise PIs on matters pertaining to sponsored research administration; prepare and submit complex research proposals and contracts; assist a portfolio of PIs with budgets and administrative content of proposals. Sponsors include DOE, DoD, ARPA-E, NSF, NIH, Foundations, and Internal; prepare standard (monthly, quarterly, annual) and nonstandard reports, forecasting, and disseminate relevant information to appropriate faculty and staff; meet with PIs monthly to review budgets and plan financial reports and forecasts; and manage complex projects from both federal and non-federal sponsors including multiple subawards and PIs.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: A bachelor‘s degree in finance or accounting; a minimum of four years of experience in financial management with experience in administration of sponsored research programs in university setting; strong communication, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; proven ability to handle deadlines and stressful situations with tact and professionalism; ability to multitask; attention to details; ability to learn technologies related to sponsored research administration. PREFERRED: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Kuali Coeus (KC), SAP, Cognos, Brio Query experience.
