    As an Interventional Radiology Lead Coder, you will train and onboard new inpatient and surgical outpatient/observation coders, providing instruction on Epic Resolute workflows, 3M 360 processes and proper use of ICD-10-CM, PCS and CPT coding systems. In this role, you will mentor coders through the onboarding and remediation process, ensuring accurate clinical abstraction, compliance with regulatory standards and proper reimbursement. You will also serve as a key coding resource for staff and leadership, promoting consistency, accuracy and quality across all coding functions.

     

    A caregiver in this role works remotely from 7:00 a.m. -- 4:00 p.m. with flexible start/end times

    A caregiver who excels in this role will:

    + Provide training and onboarding for newly hired inpatient and surgical outpatient/observation coders on Epic Resolute workflows and 3M 360 processes.

    + Provide topics for caregivers to complete self-directed education within the first week of employment.

    + Deliver one-on-one mentoring/training as assigned.

    + Conduct new hire coding and documentation orientation.

    + Assist new hires with identifying, reviewing and interpreting ICD-10-CM, PCS (inpatient) and CPT (outpatient) codes.

    + Assist new hires by abstracting clinical information from inpatient or surgical outpatients/observations for the purpose of reimbursement, research and compliance with federal regulations and other agencies utilizing established coding principles and protocols.

    + Review clinical and operational systems relative to inpatient or surgical outpatient and observation cases through chart review with new hires.

    + Serve as a coding resource to coders, leadership and others as needed.

    + Conduct the review of inpatient or outpatient coding during probationary or remediation phases.

    + Make recommendations for coding quality improvements.

    + Provide feedback to the coder and supervisor regarding ICD-10-CM, PCS and CPT coding and related clinical documentation.

    + Assist with preliminary quality review on new hire progress in 30 and 60 days.

    + Clarify discrepancies in documentation and coding.

    + Assure accuracy and timeliness of coding/abstracting assignments to expedite the billing process and to facilitate data retrieval for physician access and ongoing patient care.

    + Accurately code cases.

    + Extract pertinent information from clinical notes, operative notes, radiology reports, laboratory reports, specialty forms, etc. using ICD-10-CM/PCS codes, POA indicators and PSI indicators as applicable to inpatient or outpatient coding.

    + Determine code assignments pertinent to diagnostic workups for accurate MS-DRG/APR-DRG assignments.

    + Follow up on coding of medical records as a result of internal or external reviews which identify Coding, APC, or DRG discrepancies.

    + Support special studies in relation to coding and abstracting information according to policies and procedures.

    + May conduct testing in Epic and 3M 360 for update readiness.

    + Maintain coding knowledge and skills via written coding resources, clinical information, videos, etc.

    Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

    + High School Diploma

    + Three years of experience abstracting, identifying, reviewing, and assigning complex ICD-10-CM, PCS codes, POA and PSI indicators, surgical complications for inpatient charts **or** CPT for outpatient charts

    + Must have certification - Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) **or** Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

    + Working knowledge of Epic Resolute, 3M 360, Windows and Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, OneNote), Connect Today, etc.

    Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

    + Background in UM and the ability to educate others on items

    + Three+ years of IR Coding in both a hospital and professional setting

    Physical Requirements:

    + Physical demands may require standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying up to 25 lbs.

    + Close, distant, and color vision is required.

    + Requires manual dexterity to grasp and handle records and to operate a PC computer in the course of work.

    + The work environment is at a moderate noise level (business office with phones, copiers, computers, and printers).

    Personal Protective Equipment:

    + Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

     

    Pay Range

     

    Minimum hourly: $25.13

     

    Maximum hourly: $38.33

A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
