Summary:
Meta is seeking Visiting Researchers to join Meta AI through a short-term contract.About Meta AI: We are committed to advancing the field of artificial intelligence by making fundamental advances in scientific methods and technologies to help interact with and understand our world. We are seeking individuals passionate in areas such as machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, audio and speech processing, natural language processing, reinforcement learning, and computational statistics.This position is short-term employment for PhD students enrolled at the University of Washington, Carnegie Mellon University, University of California, Berkeley, or New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences (CIMS) or Center for Data Science (CDS). Students will collaborate with Meta and their university, working part-time during the academic school year and full-time over the summer break. Students will be expected to work onsite at a Meta office near their university. The duration of the AI Mentorship Program is one year, with the potential to extend through a second year depending on performance. Applications for the 2026-27 cohort will be open November 17 to January 9, and the program will begin fall 2026.

1. Perform research to advance the science and technology of intelligent systems.
2. Perform research that improves computational understanding and representation of data.
3. Devise data-driven models of human behavior.
4. Influence progress of relevant research communities by producing publications.
5. Collaborate and increase productivity on existing Meta research projects.
Minimum Qualifications:

6. In the process of obtaining a PhD degree in a technical field such as Computer Science from the University of Washington, Carnegie Mellon University, University of California, Berkeley, or New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences (CIMS) or Center for Data Science (CDS)
7. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
8. The primary academic advisor must be a tenure‑track or tenured faculty member at one of the universities mentioned above. Meta may, in its discretion, grant exception, where no potential conflict exists
9. Research experience in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Optimization, Speech, Safety & Alignment, Recommendation Systems, Large Language Models, RAG, Graph/Sequence learning, User/Content Understanding, or Distributed Training
10. Experience with Python, Lua, C++, C, C# and/or Java
11. Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch
12. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

13. Experience building systems based on machine learning and/or deep learning methods
14. Research and software engineer experience demonstrated via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or open-source contributions
15. Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by publications at leading conferences or workshops such as ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, EMNLP, ACL, or similar
Public Compensation:
$56.25/hour to $137,000/year + benefits
