    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Provides overall direction to the STI field Investigative and Congenital Syphilis team.

    + Provides direct supervision and coordinates work of supervisors in the STI program.

    + Conducts performance evaluations of Public Health Investigator Supervisors (PHI Supervisors) and conducts appropriate career conferences and direction for professional development of PHI Supervisors

    + Provides administrative oversight and programmatic support to ensure STI program performance goals are measurable, meaningful, and effective.

    + Updates and/or develops program policies and procedures and sets program work priorities for STI program.

    + Evaluates program outcomes and reports to Deputy Assistant Director regarding overall work progress and needs of the STI program.

    + Routinely evaluates and monitors STI programmatic areas and expends reports to determine areas for improvement.

    + Develops and ensures implementation of appropriate STI training needs for DIS staff.

    + Provides quality assurance activities to the STI program.

    + Meet with DSHS consultants monthly and/or quarterly to go over STI programmatic indicators, processes, and stay abreast of DSHS STI procedures.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Physical Science, Public Health, or a closely related field.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    Six (6) years of experience in the public health field are required.

     

    Pertinent professional experience in the public health field may be substituted for the above educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

    LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

    Requires valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).

    PREFERENCES

    Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

     

    •Working knowledge of STI (history, epidemiological profile, transmission, prevention, and treatment)

    •Demonstrated experience working in the STI treatment field.

    •Excellent written, oral, presentation, facilitation and interpersonal skills

    •Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to work comfortably with communities highly impacted by STI/ HIV.

    SALARY INFORMATION GRANT FUND POSITION

    Grants & Special fund positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
