Duties Description The New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) provides operational support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year, supporting more than 4,900 applications for 53 New York State Agencies.Under the direction of the Information Technology Specialist 4 within Dedicated Support, Department of Transportation (DOT), Business Intelligence and Analytics Team, the Technology Analyst 1 (Product Management) - Senior Business Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for turning complex data into clear and actionable insights, developing dynamic and visually compelling dashboards. The position will enable the Bureau to make more informed, data-driven decisions, ultimately improving operational efficiency and strategic planning.Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:• Design and develop interactive and complex Tableau dashboards that support strategic and operational decisions.• Develop, maintain, and optimize Tableau dashboards and reports to support decision-making across departments.• Translate business requirements into impactful visual solutions with clear insights.• Analyze datasets for trends, opportunities, and actionable recommendations.• Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and security across all reports.• Maintain and optimize the Tableau Server environment handling user access, performance tuning, user management, performance monitoring and tuning, and troubleshooting.• User role management.• Mentor team members and champion best practices in data visualization.• Manage multiple projects with timely and high-quality delivery.• Present findings to stakeholders and incorporate feedback to enhance reporting.• Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective reporting solutions.• Connect Tableau to heterogenous data sources, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and reliability.• Write SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and validation.• Provide ad-hoc analysis and data visualizations to support strategic and operational initiatives.• Ensure reports are well-documented, scalable, and aligned with BI best practices.• Work closely with ETL and data engineering teams to improve data pipelines for reporting efficiency.• Train and support end users on Tableau features, dashboard navigation, and self-service analytics.

Minimum Qualifications EMPLOYMENT:Five (5) years of information technology experience, one (1) year of which must be within the discipline of product management.SUBSTITUTIONS:• Associate’s degree with 15 semester credit hours in computer science, data analytics, or a related field substitutes for one year of general information technology experience. • Candidates in a bachelor’s degree program with at least 15 semester credit hours in computer science, data analytics, or a related field can substitute for one year of general information technology experience. • Bachelor’s degree in any field including or supplemented by fifteen (15) semester credit hours in computer science, data analytics, or a related field substitutes for three years substitutes for three (3) years of general information technology experience. • Bachelor’s degree in any field substitutes for two (2) years of general information technology experience. • Master’s degree or higher in computer science, data analytics, or related field substitutes for one year of general information technology experience. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:• Preference for candidates holding relevant Tableau certification, such as Desktop Specialist, Certified Data Analyst, or equivalent.• 7+ years of experience designing and maintaining Tableau dashboards• 2 years of experience with Tableau server administration• 5 years of experience with Self-service business intelligence report development• Strong SQL skills for data extraction and transformation• Experience with large datasets, relational databases, and cloud-based data sources• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills• Strong sense of design and storytelling to make data accessible and engaging• Hands-on expertise with Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server/Cloud.• Strong SQL skills for querying and manipulating data.• Experience with any cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or Azure Synapse.• Strong understanding of data modeling, visualization best practices, and dashboard usability.• Ability to analyze large datasets and present insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS• Degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field• Advanced coding or data management skills• Leadership or mentoring experience• Familiarity with other BI tools (Power BI, Looker, OBIEE etc.) and reporting frameworks.• Knowledge of statistics, business KPIs, and advanced data analysis methods.PLEASE NOTE:• Appointment to this position and continued employment with the agency is contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining New York State residency within six months of hiring.• Appointment to this position is not final until all agency approvals have been granted.
