Job Title: Shop Helper (Days)

Job Description

Join a dynamic service and repair company specializing in pumps and rotating equipment as a shop helper. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness of the shop and property by picking up trash and scrap. Your responsibilities will also include moving materials for mechanics and machinists, organizing the shop, and getting parts for quality control. Operating a forklift to move larger items will be a part of your daily tasks. Begin as a shop helper with exposure to trades such as mechanics and machining, with potential growth into an apprentice role.

Responsibilities

+ Maintain cleanliness of the shop and property by picking up trash and scrap.

+ Move materials for mechanics and machinists.

+ Organize the shop and assist in getting parts for quality control.

+ Operate a forklift to move larger items.

+ Support other departments within the shop.

Essential Skills

+ 2+ years of mechanical aptitude.

+ Basic forklift experience.

+ Ability to work in an industrial setting.

+ Mechanical aptitude.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience with blueprint reading, repair, hand tools, general labor, and oil changes.

+ Skills in mechanical troubleshooting, pump maintenance, and using micrometers and power tools.

+ Interest in industrial painting, spray gun use, grinding, and framing.

+ Desire to grow into higher-level roles within the company.

Work Environment

Work in a medium-sized, air-conditioned shop bustling with parts and pumps due to high business volume. A larger facility is planned for completion by January 2026. The day shift includes a team of 7 manual machinists, 10 pump mechanics, and 1 welder, while the night shift comprises 3 manual machinists, 8 pump mechanics, and 1 welder. The company provides a stable work environment with many employees demonstrating long tenure or transitioning from other shops due to the positive work culture. Employees are required to wear steel-toed boots, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses. The day shift operates Monday to Friday from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm and Saturday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, with two paid breaks and one unpaid lunch. Employees typically work 50 to 60 hours per week, occasionally on Sundays for double-time pay.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
