    Job Description:

    Essential Responsibilities:

    1. Supervises operations in Lab Control and partners with Lab Support Leads to ensure adequate staffing and efficient, effective workflow for all sites (e.g., East Campus, West Campus and SCC), including meeting turnaround time expectations. Manages, directs and adjusts workflow as needed.

    2. Serves as liaison between Lab Control and other departments.

    3. Provides supervisory support to mentor, coach and guide as needed. Schedules vacation and processes payroll. Provides input for payroll and employee performance appraisals

    4. Trains new employees and ensures ongoing competency for all employees. Participates in performance counseling for employees.

    5. Leads by example and serves as a technical resource for any questions that arise in their areas of responsibility

    6. Shares weekend 'manager on duty' rotation with other Lab Control leaders

    7. Provides timely and effective communication to staff. Communicates any concerns to Manager and makes suggestions for resolution

    8. Understands budget goals for department and shares responsibility for meeting those goals

    9. Drives quality improvement initiatives, continuously looking for ways to improve performance and service. Participates in major projects including space planning, workflow redesign and department implementation of Laboratory Information System(s) in the area of expertise.

    10. Maintains compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies including quality improvement training, safety compliance and competency in area of expertise

    11. Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: More than 7 Indirect Reports: 21-50

    12. Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.

    Required Qualifications:

    1. Associate's degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

    2. 3-5 years related work experience required and 3-5 years supervisory/management experience required

    3. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

    Competencies:

    1. **Decision Making:** Ability to make decisions that are guided by precedents, policies and objectives. Regularly makes decisions and recommendations on issues affecting a department or functional area.

    2. **Problem Solving:** Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, requiring staff input, innovative, creative, and Lean diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.

    3. **Independence of Action:** Ability to set goals and priorities for functional area. May make recommendations for department policies, practices and programs. Manager or Director provides broad guidance and overall direction.

    4. **Written Communications:** Ability to communicate complex information in English effectively in writing to all levels of staff, management and external customers across functional areas.

    5. **Oral Communications:** Ability to verbally communicate complex concepts in English and address sensitive situations, resolve conflicts, negotiate, motivate and persuade others.

    6. **Knowledge:** Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.

    7. **Team Work:** Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

    8. **Customer Service:** Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

    Physical Nature of the Job:

    Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.

    Pay Range:

    $79,040.00 USD - $106,377.00 USD

     

    The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
