    General Description

    LaGuardia Community College seeks a motivated and detail-oriented individual to conduct oral history interviews and support archival operations for the Institutional Archives in the Library. This position is part of the Cultivating Archives and Institutional Memory Project, funded by the Mellon Foundation. This is a part-time position, working up to 18 hours per week, for 354 hours to use between September 2025-December 2026.

     

    The Project Archivist will assist the campus archivist in conducting an oral history project focused on students and how their cultural and geographic backgrounds relate to self-identity.

    Under the supervision of the Library Archivist, the Project Archivist will:

    + Schedule oral history interviews

    + Conduct oral history interviews

    + Edit transcripts of interviews

    + Catalog collection for digital access

    + General archival processing to develop the collection. This includes arranging, describing, rehousing, and scanning of archival materials

    Other Duties

    Other duties may involve:

    + Attend staff meeting and trainings

    + Campus outreach to solicit student narrators

    + Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Ability to conduct and transcribe an oral history interview in both English and Spanish (translation of interviews is not expected)

    + Ability to use Microsoft suite tools

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Previous oral history interview experience

    + Previous hands-on experience working with archival collections (including part-time positions, internships, research, etc.)

     

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements

     

    + This position is based in a professional office environment and will include in-person requirements

    + While performing these duties, the employee may be required to:

    + Sit for extended periods

    + Use a computer and other office equipment

    + Occasionally lift or move items up to 20 pounds

    + Ability to travel to other CUNY sites as needed.
