Senior Radiochemist
Pay Rate: $56 – $95/hr
Schedule: Full-time, On-site 4 days/week
Description:
System One is seeking a Senior Radiochemist to support advanced nuclear reactor R&D programs. This role focuses on experimental radiochemistry supporting laboratory activities critical to reactor development, including actinide salt synthesis, molten salt property measurements, and radiochemical analysis. You will collaborate with R&D, design engineering, and quality groups in a high-performing, multi-disciplinary environment to inform design decisions and advance reactor chemistry understanding.
This position requires the ability to be physically present at the Everett, WA lab.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Lead and assist experiments, including acting as Principal Investigator (PI) on multiple efforts.
+ Develop and conduct process monitoring techniques in high-temperature molten salts and gas streams containing fission products.
+ Assist in radiochemistry laboratory developments, including designing flexible experimental chemistry capabilities.
+ Prepare technical reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, IP documents, and conference presentations.
+ Maintain laboratory procedures (calibration, analytical methods, documentation).
+ Perform all work in compliance with site safety and radiation protection guidelines.
+ Emphasize safety in all experimental activities.
+ Train, develop, and mentor employees.
+ Ensure organization and effectiveness of R&D radiochemistry areas and production facilities.
+ Perform other general duties to support ongoing effectiveness and continuous improvement of R&D efforts.
Key Qualifications:
+ Doctoral degree (PhD) in radiochemistry, chemistry, or equivalent, with hands-on laboratory experience.
+ Experience with bulk actinide and radiological material synthesis, processing, or handling under controlled environments.
+ Extensive background in nuclear systems chemistry and radiochemistry relevant to the fuel cycle and advanced reactors.
+ Leadership experience in multifunctional teams and complex project execution.
+ Experience with gloveboxes, Schlenk lines, and controlled-atmosphere equipment.
+ Expertise in actinide compound characterization techniques such as Raman, UV-Vis, ICP-OES/MS, TGA/DSC, XRD, alpha/gamma spectroscopy, IC, HPLC, TLC (experience with 4+ desired).
+ Planning, design, and execution experience for electrochemical, spectroscopic, and spectroelectrochemical experiments is a plus.
+ High standards for safety and radiation protection, particularly NRC regulations.
+ Strong technical writing, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to structure and plan applied research in radiochemistry.
+ High integrity, open communication, respect, and teamwork orientation.
