The Direct Support Personnel I assists individuals with intellectual disabilities or mental health challenges with growth and development of interpersonal skills and activities of daily living in the home, community or residential setting. The Direct Support Personnel I works directly with the resident and provides supports for activities of daily living and adaptive skills. The Direct Support Personnel I should follow the guidance of the resident/ patients Individual Service Plan.
Qualifications
They will train, but you must meet the following criteria to be eligible according to state, school, and federal regulations, and our quality of care standards!
+ (h) Direct care staff shall be at least 21 years of age, have ahigh school diploma, high school equivalency
certificate, or general equivalency diploma, and meet one of thefollowing pre-service training and education
requirements:
(1) An associate’s or higher degree with a minimum of 12credits in the field of human services,
or other field related to residential care, awarded by aregionally accredited college or university;
(2) The equivalent of 2 years of full-time experience workingwith children, either as a paid
employee or volunteer, including as a para-professional in apublic school;
(3) Any combination of college credits in human services andexperience with children that total
2 years, as follows:
a. Two years of full-time college shall equal 60 credits;
b. Two years of full-time employment shall equal 3000hours; and
c. One credit shall equal 50 hours of experience;
(4) Documentation of 7 years of parenting experience; or
(5) The equivalent of 2 yearsof full-time experience working with adults in a licensed residential
