    The AVP of Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations serves as a strategic and operational leader for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s enterprise technology foundations that support clinical, research, administrative, and operational functions. This position formulates and implements the infrastructure vision, ensuring secure, scalable, and highly available services across both on-premises and cloud environments. Responsibilities include oversight of IT operations such as service delivery and support, management of vendor and partner relationships, and supervision of outsourced services provided by Beth Israel Lahey Health. The role is entrusted with stewardship of an approximately $6 million operating budget and direct management of a team of 30+ employees and contractors. Additionally, this role drives technology modernization and fosters operational excellence to further patient care, research effectiveness, and overall institutional efficiency.

    + **Strategy and Roadmap:** Develop and execute the strategic vision and multi-year roadmap for enterprise infrastructure and IT operations aligned to organizational objectives; establish architecture standards, service levels, operating models, and KPIs to drive reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.

    + E **nterprise Infrastructure:** Oversee the design, deployment, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement of networks, hosting, storage, virtualization, cloud, identity and access, collaboration and productivity, and endpoint services to support clinical, administrative, and research needs; e **nsure security and high performance across environments.**

    + **High Availability and Disaster Recovery:** Lead the Institute’s high-availability posture; establish, document, and regularly test disaster recovery and business continuity plans; implement resiliency architecture and failover capabilities; coordinate institute-wide exercises and remediation of findings.

    + **IT Operations Excellence:** Lead the IT operations function to deliver efficient services, including proactive monitoring, event/incident/problem/change management, configuration and asset management, and capacity/performance management; drive root-cause analysis, continuous improvement, and adoption of ITSM best practices.

    + **Vendor and Partner Management:** Manage vendor relationships and outsourced service providers; negotiate contracts for hardware, software, and services; govern SLAs/OLAs and collaborate with Beth Israel Lahey Health and other partners to integrate shared technology solutions, ensuring seamless service delivery.

    + **People Leadership and Culture:** Build, lead, and supervise a high-performing team of IT professionals; define roles, set clear expectations, coach and develop talent, foster collaboration, accountability, innovation, and inclusion; plan workforce and succession needs to meet evolving technology demands.

    + **Stakeholder Engagement, Communication, and Budget Stewardship:** Partner with clinical, administrative, and operational leaders to understand requirements and deliver solutions that enhance patient care and organizational efficiency; communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders; steward the ~$6M operating budget, prioritize investments, and optimize total cost of ownership.

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Health Informatics, Business Administration, or related field required.

    + 12+ years leading enterprise IT infrastructure and operations teams, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles, managing multi-disciplinary teams in a complex, matrixed organization.

    + Demonstrated success operating in healthcare or academic medicine environments, overseeing high-availability platforms and transformation programs. Experience with strategic planning, stakeholder management, vendor/out-sourced service portfolios (including collaboration with partner health systems such as Beth Israel Lahey Health) and delivering enterprise services at scale.

    + Experience managing operating budgets of similar size (approximately $6M) and building, coaching, and developing teams of ~30 FTEs. Background with hybrid cloud (e.g., Azure/AWS), data center operations, ITIL framework (e.g., ITSM processes/ServiceNow), and integration with clinical systems (e.g., Epic) strongly preferred.

    + ITIL certification, PMP, CISSP or CISM preferred; relevant cloud certifications (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS) preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    + **Network architecture:** knowledge across network (LAN/WAN/Wi‑Fi, SD‑WAN), routing/switching, firewalls, load balancers, and oversee the connectivity for multi-sites and cloud environments.

    + **Hosting and virtualization:** experience with VMware/Hyper‑V, storage (SAN/NAS), backup/restore, replication, and capacity planning.

    + **Hybrid Cloud environments:** proficiency with Azure/AWS, including landing zones, identity, networking, security controls, and integration across IaaS/PaaS/SaaS. Familiarity with automation, Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform/Ansible), SRE practices, and DevOps collaboration.

    + **Identity and access management:** experience with Active Directory/Entra AD, SSO, MFA, endpoint management (e.g., Intune/SCCM/JAMF), and collaboration platforms (Microsoft 365).

    + **High-availability design:** understanding of patterns regarding redundancy, clustering, load balancing and experience with disaster recovery planning (RTO/RPO), documentation, drills, and continuous improvement processes.

    + **Regulatory and compliance awareness:** skilled in documentation discipline, audit readiness, and remediation.

    + **Data center operations:** knowledge of power, cooling, cabling, environmental monitoring and capacity planning.

    + **Service continuity:** experienced in a 24x7 mission-critical environment; major incident management and on-call process oversight.

    + **IT operations disciplines and tools:** skilled in proactive endpoint monitoring and observability applications (e.g., SolarWinds, Splunk, Datadog), ITSM processes (incident, problem, change), CMDB, and service reporting.

    + **Cybersecurity:** proficient in risk management in partnership with Information Security; familiarity with HIPAA/HITECH, NIST CSF, CIS Controls, and third‑party risk.

    + **Clinical systems:** awareness of EHR infrastructure (e.g., Epic), interface/integration concepts (HL7, FHIR), and performance/reliability considerations for patient care.

    + **Vendor/outsourced provider management:** skilled in contract negotiation, creation and management of SLAs/OLAs, performance governance; ability to collaborate with Beth Israel Lahey Health on shared services.

    + **Financial acumen:** experienced in budget development and management (~$6M), cost optimization, TCO/ROI analysis, cloud cost controls, and investment prioritization.

    + **Leadership:** ability to hire, develop, and retain top talent; build inclusive, collaborative, and accountable teams; mentor staff and manage change in a fast-paced environment.

    + **Communication and influence:** proven excellence in translating complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences, ensuring executive-ready presentations, and building strong relationships with clinical, research, and administrative stakeholders.

    + **Program/project management:** expert in leading large-scale implementations, migrations, and modernization initiatives; applying structured change management practices.

    + **Continuous improvement:** expertise in fostering a continuous improvement mindset, utilizing data and metrics to outline objectives, measure enhancement and convey successes.

     

    Pay Transparency Statement

     

    The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

     

    For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)

     

    $237,500 - $277,600
