This position performs responsible supervisory work in the direct supervision of Probation and Parole Officers in the delivery of probation, parole, pardon and work release services.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus one of the following:
1. Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement
2. Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply)
3. Six years of full-time experience in any field
4. A bachelor's degree
OR
Two years of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus a master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, business administration, public administration, or a criminal justice field.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Provide guidance, technical assistance, and supervision of subordinate personnel to include periodic audits, reviews, and conferences, to ensure accuracy, timeliness, legal conformance, acceptability of standards, and quality of all casework and investigative activities.
Coordinates and supervises a group of Probation and Parole Officers engaged in activities related to the violation process to include planning of arrests, transportation of violators, coordination of probable cause, and revocation hearings.
Assist in the personnel management of the office by participating in the personnel selection process, employment background investigations, administration of disciplinary actions within a unit, documentation of supervisory evaluations, and serving as acting manager in the absence of the Probation and Parole District Manager.
Perform special managerial functions which may include, but are not limited to, assignment of cases, investigations, intake services, and coordination and liaison with criminal justice agencies, community service agencies, community-based and residential facilities.
Conducts disciplinary hearings for adult inmates housed in Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRC).
Monitor compliance with the district's Sex Offender Program.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)
+ The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted, or may be required to accept a probational appointment.
Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $33.78 per hour.
Note regarding the advertised pay range: The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career and NOTthe amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.

+ Any qualifying experience that is based on college credit/college hours should have an accompanying transcript for verification.
+ This is a 24-hour facility.
