    Position Description:

    Performs law enforcement services on a 24-hour basis and receives, processes, and transmits public safety information and criminal justice data for the Texas Tech Police Department by using a base radio on a public safety frequency regulated by the Federal Communications Commission or by another method of communication.

    Major/Essential Functions:

    + Ability to communicate effectively.

    + Communications skills both oral and written.

    + Knowledge of university and department operating policies and procedures.

    + Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and the ability to multi-task.

    + Receives and transmits radio communications to dispatch police, fire, EMS and other appropriate personnel as required.

    + Monitor security and fire alarms and closely observe security footage screens for situations needing intervention by guards, police officers or fire department and request assistance as necessary.

    + Enters, updates, and retrieves information from teletype networks and computerized data systems regarding such things as wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration and stolen vehicles.

    + Computer literate and ability to understand and follow oral or written directive and able to assess situation. Ability to use equipment and resources.

    + Prepare, process and issue HSC identification badges to faculty, staff and employees ensuring that proper authorization and identification are presented, as required by the TTEPPD Ops and or/Texas State Law.

    + Receives and responds to requests from police officers for various criminal justice information utilizing various law enforcement and criminal justice computer terminals and data systems.

    + Utilizes the Computer Assisted Dispatch operating system to log and record call sheet information ensuring that all entries are accurate, thorough and error free. Ability to manage communication room operations.

    + Complete daily activity reports. Ability to use equipment and resources. Performs a daily backup of all computer and telecommunications systems.

    + Troubleshoots problems with the 911 recording system and make duplicate recordings as required. Assist visitors at reception by answering inquiries or providing information requested when no other staff is available. Operated the emergency notification system as necessary.

    + Remains current with all licensures, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position.

    + Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.).

    + Personally demonstrate, display and act in accordance with TTUHSC EP's Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Serve as a Value's leader while actively promoting and encouraging staff across the institution.

    + Perform all other duties as assigned.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + One year of experience in general office or clerical work with some two-way radio experience.

    + Possess Basic Telecommunicator Proficiency Certificate from Texas Commission of Law Enforcement

    + Police dispatchers need the ability to remain calm in emergency situations.

    + The dispatcher must be able to think and act clearly during calls to the police station.

    + The ability to multitask on the job is also an essential skill.

    + Police dispatchers must possess skills using telephone, computer, and radio equipment while communicating effectively with callers and police personnel.

    + Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

    + Ability to exercise emotional control.

    + Ability to learn and efficiently use various computer programs including Microsoft Word, Computer Aided Dispatch, telephone and records systems, and other systems that are or may be adapted for use by the police department is required.
