    We are seeking a **Technical Consultant** to join our expanding commodity trading and risk management (CTRM) software implementation practice. We're looking for ambitious and energetic candidates who are eager to learn and contribute to our continued growth.

     

    As a Technical Consultant, you will gain invaluable experience working alongside some of the industry's leading energy experts while implementing solutions directly with clients. You will be responsible for the complete technical development lifecycle, including designing, coding, testing, and implementing product customizations and system interfaces.

    Responsibilities

    + Work collaboratively under the guidance of Essentia's project managers and principal consultants

    + Actively engage in requirements gathering sessions with clients, providing technical contributions and facilitation assistance

    + Present technical solutions and recommendations directly to clients

    + Communicate proactively with project leadership about progress, challenges, and obstacles

    + Handle comprehensive project tasks including design, documentation, configuration, coding, testing, and deployment

    + Participate in and support critical design decisions for customizations and interfaces between CTRM platforms and other systems

    + Adhere to best practices in technical development for CTRM systems, ensuring quality in design, coding, and testing

    + Provide technical guidance to other consultants while maintaining documentation standards

    + Offer expert advice on technology and infrastructure to support production CTRM systems that meet client requirements

    Requirements

    + Rice University preferred

    + Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, MIS, Data Science, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Economics, STEM, or directly related field

    + Preferred cumulative GPA: 3.5+ Preferred major GPA: 3.5+ Software Development: Experience designing, coding, configuring, testing, and debugging reports, plugins, and interfaces

    + Programming: Strong object-oriented programming skills with proficiency in at least one language (Java, Python, C++, C#, .NET, JavaScript)

    + Methodologies: Familiarity with Agile development methodologies (SCRUM, Waterfall)

    + Development Tools: Proficient use of IDEs, code editors, and debugging tools (Visual Studio preferred)

    + System Design: Knowledge of user interface design and standard integration patterns

    + Microsoft Stack: Experience with .NET Windows Forms, source control, and continuous integration tools (Git, TFS, Confluence, Bamboo)

    + Project Management: Experience with issue tracking systems (Jira)

    + Database Systems: Understanding of database management systems (MS SQL, Oracle), relational database concepts, and data modeling

    + Cloud Technologies: Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS)

    + Documentation: Experience writing technical specifications

    + Office Productivity: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)

    + Personal Qualities: Self-motivated, independent, and resourceful with strong objectivity and ability to give/receive constructive feedback

    + Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities

    + Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills

    + Interpersonal Skills: Excellent team collaboration abilities and professional client interaction skills

    + Flexibility: Willingness to work onsite at client locations (up to 20% travel)
