Internal Title: Sustainable Natural Rubber Lead
As a Materials Scientist Lead, you’ll spearhead groundbreaking initiatives in sustainable natural rubber—leading external partnerships and advancing alternative technologies that shape the future of our products. You’ll oversee a dynamic portfolio of natural rubber alternatives, spanning diverse timelines and technical maturity levels, while serving as the technical authority guiding strategy and execution across global teams. Your broad technical expertise will be key to integrating rubber flexibility across compounds and product lines, and your insights will help shape the direction of our polymer and compounding councils. We’re looking for a curious, energetic, and forward-thinking leader who thrives in cross-functional collaboration and is ready to make a lasting impact.
What You’ll Do
+ Scout innovative natural rubber alternatives and build strategic partnerships to accelerate sustainable solutions.
+ Build a robust, forward-looking portfolio of technologies and recommend investment priorities based on technical maturity and impact.
+ Serve as principal investigator for current projects and lead new initiatives from concept to commercialization.
+ Partner with internal and external teams to develop and implement cutting-edge rubber technologies.
+ Work with government relations and consultants to identify funding opportunities, support proposals, and manage awarded projects.
+ Communicate progress and insights with internal councils and external partners, ensuring alignment and transparency.
+ Track emerging technologies and competitive landscapes; publish white papers to share thought leadership.
+ Advance Goodyear’s IP position through strategic patent filings and trade secret development.
What We’re Looking For
+ Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Molecular/Synthetic Biology or similar field.
+ 6+ years of hands-on experience in dynamic professional and/or laboratory setting, with a strong foundation in sustainability, materials science, chemistry, biology, or related disciplines.
What Will Set You Apart
+ Master’s or PhD in related field.
+ Practical exposure to polymer formulation, characterization, or compounding processes, especially in rubber or elastomer applications.
+ Experience preparing, submitting, or managing government proposals and grants, ideally within sustainability or materials innovation.
+ Knowledge in molecular or synthetic biology is a plus.
+ Flexible in changing environments or priorities.
