Job Summary and Qualifications

RN Trauma Educator

The Trauma Educator provides trauma education with supervision from the Trauma Program Director. They assume accountability for assisting in developing, supporting, coordinating, and presenting trauma education activities within the hospital and at the community level. This would include but not be limited to providing information to trauma program staff, hospital staff, patients/families, Emergency Medicine Services (EMS) agencies and the community. Acts as a clinical resource, functioning as a role model for patient care and assists in staff development. Coordinates ATLS courses as an ATLS coordinator or assists the ATLS / ATCN coordinator with planning courses. The trauma educator maintains their TNCC instructor status, with preference for this position to be a TNCC Faculty member.

What you will do in this role:

+ Acts as a resource to staff and assists in problem solving relating to the care of the trauma patient.

+ Participates in staff meetings to update internal departments with new PI initiatives and or facilitating loop closure via education from identified opportunities.

+ Accepts responsibility for being a resource for designated clinical expertise through mentoring, unit rounds, in-services, and informal opportunities.

+ Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

+ Maintains current knowledge of trauma care standards and trauma resource including Trauma Registry. Participates and leads hospital-wide trauma education efforts for hospital and the community as outlined in Tennessee Trauma Standards and the American College of Surgeons Resource for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient.

+ Leads trauma educational activities.

+ Plans activities based on performance improvement indicators and evaluates effectiveness of plans.

+ Assists with the development and provision of organizational-wide educational opportunities for staff to gain knowledge and skills, investigate new approaches and advance clinical competence.

+ Recommends and assists in the development of continuing education programs based on assessment of the unit needs.

+ Collaborates with hospital liaisons and hospital outreach coordinators to provide pre-hospital education and feedback.

What qualifications you will need:

+ Current RN licensure by TN Board of Nursing or a Board of Nursing from a compact state

+ Current BLS from the American Heart Association

+ ACLS and PALS within 1 year of employment

+ Three to Five Years nursing experience in ED, Critical Care, or experience in a trauma setting preferred.

+ TNCC Instructor required

+ Preferred certifications: CEN, CCRN, TCRN, TNCC Faculty, ATLS Coordinator, ATCN, ATCN Coordinator
