The Email Marketing Specialist position exists to be responsible for coding, deploying, and optimizing mass-market SMS, MMS, push, and email notification campaigns. This includes developing SMS engagement strategies, managing opt-in compliance, message cadence, and cross-channel integration. This position is part of the Email Marketing Team to help impact relevance, incorporate best industry practice and create error free production and distribution of each deployment.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Campaign Management:
+ Manages the digital processes from creation through deployment while keeping on a strict schedule
+ Launches campaigns to the entire base or to segmented list of our constituents
+ Develops and schedules SMS and MMS campaigns to support ministry promotions, broadcast reminders, and ongoing engagement initiatives
+ Manages SMS compliance guidelines (CTIA, TCPA) and ensures opt-in/opt-out processes are properly implemented
+ Tracks and analyzes Email & SMS engagement metrics such as delivery rate, response rate, and conversion
+ Coordinates with carriers for 10DLC registration and maintains campaign vetting requirements
+ Initiates A/B testing toward improving key metrics across both channels (email: opens, clicks, conversion; SMS: response rate, click-through rate, opt-out rate, conversion)
+ Contributes and adheres to the development of department standards and processes
+ Establishes and maintains a healthy give / take atmosphere of respect between ministry contacts and the Email Marketing team
+ Creates, specifies, and recommends improvements that will help the ministerial and giving aspect of Focus
+ Brings strategic vision and objectivity to the Email Marketing team, keeping all work in focus and on target to achieve significant returns on objectives
Impact Relevance:
+ Helps develop base email contact strategies, and robust test matrices
+ Works with the Data Services team to enhance impact relevance
+ Develops Email & SMS-specific personalization strategies and message cadence optimization to maximize engagement without subscriber fatigue
+ Measures the effectiveness of initiatives to improve relevancy
+ Creates dynamic content to target relevant content via digital marketing
Team Membership:
+ Acts as a team representative on technical development projects that impact product, key metrics, and relevancy
+ Contributes to strategic and tactical planning
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
+ Masters software utilized by the ministry (Salesforce marketing Cloud, Aprimo)
+ Stays current with evolving Email & SMS marketing trends, consent requirements, and mobile engagement innovations
+ Monitors carrier guidelines and industry changes affecting SMS/MMS deliverability and best practices
+ Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Experience:
+ Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud preferred, Enterprise ESP expected
+ 2-4 years proven experience coding using HTML & CSS
+ Coding experience for responsive email design
+ 2-4 years of experience in digital marketing: online advertising, creative development, online media, site design and development, and/or managing Web sites a plus
+ 2-4 years of Database/Direct Marketing experience preferred
Photoshop, and Adobe Creative Suite preferred
+ Degree in a Computer Science Discipline is desired
+ A/B testing experience preferred
+ Experience with SMS platforms or modules within Salesforce Marketing Cloud (MobileConnect, Mobile Studio) preferred
+ Working knowledge of mobile carrier guidelines, SMS deliverability, and compliance practices
+ Experience with integrating Email & SMS into omnichannel journeys
+ Familiarity with SMS short codes, long codes, and 10DLC (10-Digit Long Code) registration processes
Skills, Abilities and Special Talents/Gifts:
+ Ability to write concise and compelling short-form copy tailored for SMS engagement
+ Understanding of mobile-first design, character limitations, and call-to-action optimization for SMS
+ Strong analytical skills to interpret Email & SMS performance metrics and conversion tracking
+ Knowledge of time zone management and "quiet hours" compliance for SMS delivery (8 AM - 9 PM restrictions)
+ Understanding of SMS deliverability factors including carrier filtering, throughput limitations, and message concatenation
+ Ability to successfully organize, prioritize and manage multiple online projects in a strict deadline-driven environment
+ Effective problem-solving skills, specifically the ability to assess situations, evaluate options and make decisions/draw conclusions
+ Superior writing, communication, and presentation skills
+ Understanding of the overall media landscape and the digital sector
+ Ability to grasp and discuss complex technical and analytical topics
+ Willingness to adapt to multiple environments
+ Experience and expertise with high-level contact management and digital marketing development
+ Creativity and inventiveness in problem solving
+ Spreadsheet manipulation and basic statistical analysis
+ Ability to work well in a team, to shine as an individual and to maintain a sense of humor

Pay Range: $26.00 to $30.00/hr
