    The Department of Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is seeking outstanding applicants to fill a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant position in the Division of Medical Oncology. The main function of the incumbent will be to coordinate the care of patients enrolled in clinical trials. Under general supervision and in accordance with standardized procedures, incumbent performs initial assessment and informed consent, physical examinations, counsels patients and families, monitors patient progress, and works closely with the research coordinators and physicians. Successful candidates will have strong clinical skills and interest in serving a diverse patient population and have a strong interest in clinical research. We offer a highly competitive salary package with excellent benefits. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position will be hired as a clinical instructor.

     

    + Specific Duties include:Conducts in-depth interviews with patients and/or family, constructs comprehensive medical histories, performs initial and periodic physical examinations and explores patient's interpretation of health needs. Identifies and treats patients' diseases. Manages treatment of hospitalized or clinic patients.

    + Directly performs or orders appropriate diagnostic studies and interprets finished results.

    + Contributes to the implementation of specific clinical trial protocols and the clinical management of patients on clinical trials.

    + Collaborates with other providers to identify potential clinical trial candidates and obtain informed consent when appropriate

    + Performs all clinical assessments that are required per the clinical trial protocol in close coordination with the study coordinator and other team members as needed

    + Develops and implements long and shor range treatment plans.

    + Performs procedures such as obtaining specimens, performing injections, and lab draws

    + Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.

    + Initiates consultations and monitors scheduling of patients for special tests.

    + Identifies and records pertinent progress of patients, updating and summarizing

     

    charts, changing orders when appropriate and notifying the responsible

     

    physician of changes in the patient's condition.

     

    + Develops, review and initiates treatment plan orders

    + Instructs and counsels patients and families regarding preventive care, medical

     

    problems, psychological problems, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.

     

    Acts as liaison with governmental agencies such as National Institute of Health and National Cancer Institute. Assists with medical research projects, following

     

    medical research protocols. Obtains Investigational Review Board approval for

     

    treatment protocols.

     

    + Researches community resources for referral of patients. Refers patients to most appropriate resource based on patients' medical needs and conditions.

    + Maintains compliance with established University and department policies and

     

    procedures, quality assurance, safety, environmental, infection control and

     

    complies with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.

     

    + Participates in in-service education programs and professional associations.

    + Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

     

    The NP or PA will be located in one of USC’s Orange County in Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, or nearby location, and may occasionally travel up to USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

     

    Minimum Field of Expertise: For NP candidates, possession of current certificate of completion from a Nurse Practitioner program. Current and valid California State RN and Nurse Practitioner licenses, and Basic Cardiac Life Support certification. Clinical nursing experience.

     

    THIS IS A PRACTITIONER POSITION – You will not be teaching NP or PA students.
