    Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Clinic RN in our **MercyOne Waterloo Cancer Care**

     

    Clinic

     

    As a Clinic RN at MercyOne, you will utilize critical thinking to assess, plan, implement and evaluate outcome based care of patients. The RN supervises and coordinates care provided to patients by the LPN, Medical Assistants and other Clinic team members. The RN facilitates communication with physicians, patient and family, other departments and/or team members. Adheres to MercyOnes’s performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of MercyOne.

    Schedule:

    + Full time 32 hours a week

    + 8:00a- 4:30p

    + no weekends no Holidays

    General Requirements:

    + Assists provider in providing care appropriate to the age related needs of the patients served based on principles of growth and development.

    + Analyzes record for completeness and understanding of patient history.

    + Greets and identifies patient.

    + Prepares patient for exam while protecting patient’s privacy/modesty.

    + Reviews current medications and allergies and documents.

    + Takes vital signs, obtains chief complaints, history and documents.

    + Assists provider with routine and advanced procedures (administering IV meds/fluids, lumbar punctures, stress testing, etc.).

    + Provides patient cares as directed by providers (i.e., immunizations, spirometry, injections, EKG, nebulizer, ear washing, wart removal, etc.).

    + Prepares exam/procedure rooms and equipment for patient care.

    + Assists provider in providing patient care via phone, mail and/or fax.

    + Gathers and analyzes relevant information provided by patient.

    + Triage calls per established provider protocols.

    + Provides provider with summary of patient needs and/or test results.

    + Communicates information from provider to patient regarding next step.

    + Delegates tasks appropriately to other team members.

    + Returns phone calls in a timely manner.

    + Calls in prescriptions and refills as directed by provider.

    + Performs pre-certifications for medications, tests, procedures or exams as required.

    + Provides scheduling support for patients.

    + Schedules patients for appointments, tests and surgeries/referrals to hospice, home nursing, nursing home, etc.

    + Initiates referral form.

    + Works to accommodate provider and patient schedules when making appointments.

    + Communicates and provides instruction for testing and/or referrals.

    + Provides information to clinic scheduler.

    + Educates patients and families to meet identified needs.

    + Assesses patient/family learning needs, barriers to learning and learning readiness and communicates to physician.

    + Provides patient education as directed by provider. Considers learning needs, cultural and religious practices, emotional barriers, physical and cognitive limitations and language barriers.

    + Evaluates patient and family response to educational interventions.

    + Documents patient and family teaching in accordance with current policy and procedure.

    + Communicates patient information.

    + Documents completely and legibly (i.e., patient and family teaching, phone calls, etc.).

    + Initiates completion of necessary documents (i.e. lab/x-ray orders, RTW forms, indigent forms, etc.).

    + Inform patients of testing results as directed by provider and documents in record (lab/x-ray results).

    + Prioritizes work, taking into account the needs of the patient, department and others.

    + Communicates with other team members throughout the day to reassess and prioritize the needs of the department.

    + Provides support to various functions of the clinic.

    + Maintains appropriate inventory of medications and supplies.

    + Maintains and logs sample medications.

    + Assists with filing.

    + Complies with all infection control policies.

    + Maintains clean work environment.

    + Coordinates staff orientation, training and development.

    + Serves as a resource regarding patient and staff educational needs.

    + Ensures that new employees are oriented to the department/job and that initial competency is assessed and documented.

    + Develops educational programs and materials as needed.

    + Performs laboratory functions according to collection and processing policies and procedures.

    + Tracks lab results and assists provider with necessary follow up.

    + Performs limited radiographer functions as directed according to radiology policies and procedures.

    + Positions patient for specified x-ray/EKG.

    + Explains procedure to patient and answers questions.

    + Acts as a collaborating member of the clinic medical home team and is highly committed to a team construct.

    + Commits to the Wheaton Franciscan Medical Home Principles of Practice.

    + Promotes quality and service excellence for patients by providing personalized care in a collaborative team environment.

    + Shares responsibility for providing health care for the team's patients in a clinic setting.

    + Contributes in a positive fashion all behaviors and activities which support the team model.

    + Accepts ownership and responds effectively to patient, team, or person concerns, and works towards positive resolution.

    + Adheres to all safety and employee health policies and procedures.

    + Completes required safety education.

    + Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe working habits.

    + Demonstrates clinical competence.

    + Utilizes the Patient Care Policies and Procedures as a reference to guide nursing practice.

    + Assures medication safety by following the “5 Rights” of medication administration.

    + Prioritizes and implements intervention according to patient assessment.

    + Demonstrates competency in computer systems and applications required for role.

    + Receives, transcribes, processes and implements provider orders per policy including dating entries, timing entries and verifying accuracy.

    + Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

    Education:

    + Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

    + Current Iowa RN license.

    + BLS.

    + Mandatory Reporter.

    + Limited Radiographer if performing x-rays.

    + Valid IA driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) (CC-Cardiology and Ped Cardiology only).

    + Minimum of 1 year clinic experience preferred.

    + High language, intermediate math, high reasoning ability.
