    As a Security Software Engineer you will drive operational excellence by creating processes, procedures and automation to improve efficiency in our day-to-day Incident Response tasks and projects. You will work closely on supporting internal customers, ensuring that their needs and issues are being addressed.

     

    You’ll provide critical support for the Security Operations team on an on-call rotation by performing research to enhance the stance of Security, and the efficiency of Operations, through metrics and data analysis.

     

    You will be integral to developing and improving incident response within the security space. Responsibilities include driving initiatives regarding scripting improvements to existing tools & processes. You’ll also providing feedback on new practices & procedures in order to scale with the rapid expansion of the AWS platform and customer base.

     

    You will drive quality into the metrics we report to assist us in focusing on the areas that give us the best ROI. This includes measurement of our project plans, issues, and cycle times.

     

    Key job responsibilities

    Security Automation Leadership

    • Lead design and development of next-generation security automation platforms

    • Collaborate with security operations teams to identify automation opportunities and technical requirements

    • Drive strategic technology integration initiatives to reduce manual operational overhead

    Technical Mentorship & Team Development

    • Mentor multiple engineers simultaneously on security automation best practices and system design

    • Guide local and global engineering teams toward optimal technical solutions

    • Serve as force-multiplier for engineering excellence across the organization

    Operational Problem Solving

    • Analyze systematic operational challenges and implement preventive solutions before they become critical

    • Work directly with experienced security responders to understand operational pain points

    • Design technical enrichment solutions that scale beyond individual contributions

    Platform Engineering & Architecture

    • Build and maintain security automation tools and platforms supporting 24/7 operations

    • Implement self-service capabilities to reduce direct engineering interaction requirements

    • Develop AI/LLM-powered automation solutions for ticket processing and response

    Incident Response & Technical Support

    • Participate in on-call rotation supporting critical security infrastructure

    Innovation & Continuous Improvement

    • Research and implement emerging technologies in security automation

    • Drive modernization of security tools and processes

    • Measure and optimize automation effectiveness and operational efficiency

     

    This role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic automation initiatives to transform security operations at scale.

    Basic Qualifications

    - 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

     

    - 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

     

    - 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

     

    - Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

    Preferred Qualifications

    - 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

     

    - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

    Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
