Responsibilities
The Rossoll Lab at Mayo Clinic Florida is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow to join an NIH-funded project exploring the molecular chaperone functions of nuclear-import receptor proteins (importins) in frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Our goal is to understand how importin act as chaperons to regulate TDP-43 phase behavior, nuclear import, and toxicity, and how these mechanisms can be harnessed to design therapeutic strategies for TDP-43 proteinopathies.
We use a multidisciplinary approach combining molecular and cell biology, advanced fluorescence microscopy, proteomics, and mouse models of neurodegenerative disease to uncover how importin-mediated pathways maintain neuronal proteostasis.
The position offers an opportunity to work in a highly interactive neuroscience community at Mayo Clinic Florida, with access to world-class facilities and other resources, including the brain bank.
A Research Fellow position in Life Sciences (LS) will require knowledge of either clinical-based research or laboratory-based research often obtained from a postdoctoral program.
A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who:
+ Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Neuroscience, Cell or Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field
+ Strong background in molecular and cell biology techniques, mammalian cell culture, and fluorescence microscope
+ Experience with mouse models of neurodegeneration is highly desirable
+ Are creative, collaborative, and eager to work in an interdisciplinary environment
