Role Overview:
The Exhibit Fabricator / Carpenter creates and contributes to the production and repair of exhibitory elements, cabinetry, and auxiliary structures. You will assist with installing and dismantling new, existing, and temporary exhibits. You will interact with Exhibit Production team members, Experience Design and Development staff, and the Facilities staff members to support the organization’s mission.
This role includes some evenings, long days, and weekends as needed. You may travel occasionally to historic sites. Mileage is reimbursed if not using a state vehicle.
Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $56,650 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:
Responsibilities include:
+ Construct and repair exhibitory elements, cabinetry, and auxiliary structures with CNC machine, traditional shop equipment, and handtools.
+ Program and operate CNC machine.
+ Use CAM, Vectric, or similar software.
+ Finish exhibitory elements, cabinetry, and structures with paint, stain, varnish, and veneers.
+ Assist with planning and coordinating the construction, installation, and maintenance of temporary and permanent exhibits.
+ Assist with preparing galleries and spaces for exhibit installation.
+ Ensure shop equipment is regulary maintained, ajusted, and cleaned. conduct routine cleaning of CNC machine, saws, lathes, dust extractors, paint sprayers, etc.
+ Operate forklift and scissor lift.
+ Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours that may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
+ Experience with a variety of tools and equipment including but not limited to CNC machine, table saws, drill presses, power drills, routers, sanders, circular saws, sawdust extractors, and paint sprayers.
+ Experience operating forklift and scissor lift.
+ Experience with CAM and CAD software (such as Vectric).
+ Must have good physical and manual dexterity for fine detail work.
+ Must be able to:
+ Climb ladders, lift 50+ pounds, and stand for long periods.
+ Be flexible, open to change, and try new approaches.
+ Create custom exhibit furniture with or without drawings.
+ Read, understand, and follow blueprints, technical plans, elevations, and case drawings.
+ Make precision measurements, create drawings, and identify necessary tools for projects.
+ Operate and maintain shop equipment.
+ Integrate plastics, metals, and other materials into millwork design and construction.
+ Attend to detail and craftsmanship.
+ Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
+ Meet deadlines independently and exercise creativity and problem-solving skills.
+ Experience and competence in using Microsoft Production Suite including Work, Excel, and Outlook.
+ Availability for extended hours during installations.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
