    Description

    We are seeking an experienced and strategic Vice President of Software Engineering to lead, scale, and optimize our growing engineering organization. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for the performance, culture, and delivery of our entire software engineering function in a fully distributed environment.

     

    You will act as both a player and a coach: setting the standard for engineering excellence while developing the next layer of leaders (your three Director direct reports). Success in this role is measured by the consistent improvement of developer productivity, product velocity, system reliability, and the professional growth of your leadership team.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Own the overall performance and output of the Software Engineering organization (~80–120 engineers across multiple teams)

    + Define, track, and continuously improve key developer performance metrics (cycle time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, developer satisfaction, retention, etc.)

    + Mentor, develop, and performance-manage three high-performing Directors of Software Development; conduct regular 1:1s, career development conversations, and succession planning

    + Partner with Product, Design, and Infrastructure leadership to align engineering roadmaps with business objectives

    + Drive engineering strategy, resource allocation, hiring plans, and budget oversight

    + Champion modern engineering practices, architectural standards, and operational excellence

    + Establish and refine processes for planning, execution, incident response, and technical debt management

    + Serve as the primary engineering representative in executive leadership discussions

    + Foster a high-trust, high-performance remote engineering culture

    Requirements

    Required Skills & Experience

    + 10+ years of progressive software engineering leadership experience, including 5+ years as a VP Engineering, Head of Engineering, or similar in a 100+ engineer organization

    + Proven track record of building and leading remote/distributed engineering teams at scale

    + Deep expertise in establishing and improving developer performance metrics and using data to drive organizational change (DORA metrics, SPACE framework, or similar)

    + Exceptional leadership mentoring and coaching skills; prior success developing Directors/VPs who were promoted under your guidance

    + Strong administrative and operational leadership as a functional VP (budgeting, org design, cross-functional influence, executive communication)

    + Experience owning end-to-end engineering OKRs and translating business strategy into technical execution

    + Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, and grow senior engineering talent in competitive markets

     

    Preferred (Not Required) Technical Background

     

    + Hands-on experience with PHP/Laravel ecosystems and AWS-based infrastructure

    + Familiarity with modern backend architectures, microservices, event-driven systems, and CI/CD practices

    + Ability to dive into architecture discussions when needed while staying at the strategic level day-to-day
