About the Role
As a Community Support Specialist, you'll empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live more independently and achieve personal goals. You'll provide hands-on training and support in real-life settings-whether at home, in the community, or at program sites-helping people build skills, confidence, and connections
What You'll Do
+ Support independence: Teach daily living skills like cooking, budgeting, and using public transportation.
+ Create opportunities: Help individuals access community resources, recreational activities, and meaningful connections.
+ Implement personalized plans: Follow each person's Individual Service Plan (ISP) and adapt activities to meet their goals.
+ Document progress: Complete accurate daily notes, timesheets, and reports for compliance and quality care.
+ Promote safety and dignity: Ensure health, well-being, and respect for individual rights at all times.
+ Communicate and collaborate: Work closely with families, coordinators, and team members to share updates and address needs.
+ Provide transportation using your own vehicle: Safely transport individuals to appointments, activities, and community outings as needed. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
+ Stay flexible: Work at different sites and with individuals who have unique needs-every day is different!
What Makes You a Great Fit
+ Caring, dependable, and passionate about helping others.
+ Strong communication and organizational skills.
+ Comfortable with physical tasks (lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, reaching).
+ Valid NYS driver's license and clean driving record.
+ High School diploma or GED.
+ Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities (1 year preferred, or 6 months with specialized training).
+ Willing to complete certifications like First Aid/CPR and Medication Administration
