    Definition and Class Characteristics

INTERVIEWS FOR SELECTED CANDIDATES WILL BE HELD THE WEEK DECEMBER8

Are you passionate about the mental health needs of the residents of Nevada County? The Nevada County Behavioral Health Department is seeking a Health Technician I or II to join the Health Technician team. Vital duties of our Health Techs include :

+ Scheduling of appointments, making referrals and interviewing individuals requesting public assistance in community/behavioral programs.

+ Acquiring pertinent information from individuals such as income, other resources, and financial obligations.

+ Assisting in interpreting program regulations and rules, explaining them to the public and individuals.

+ Learning basic data entry; help in the performance of receptionist duties, including telephone, scanning, filing and distribution of the mail.

Health Technicians are an integral part of Nevada County, whose mission is to promote health and wellness and provide support and services to help Nevada County residents meet their basic needs. Overall, their main goal is to improve the quality of life in our community! This position is crafted for individuals who have graduated from high school and have at least one year of full time, general clerical, data entry and typing experience. No college degree is required, but if you have taken a few courses in community and mental health, that's a plus!

    Health Technician I:

This is an entry and trainee level class in the series. Incumbents function in a training and learning capacity while performing basic and less difficult assignments under close supervision. As incumbents learn program principles, procedures, and assignments they can reasonably expect promotion to the higher level of Health Technician II when qualified.

    Health Technician II:

This is the first journey level class in the series. Incumbents are responsible for a specialized function that requires approximately two years of work experience in a health related field. Incumbents are expected to successfully perform all phases of work and to exercise independence of decision and action under general direction. Incumbents may also perform in a lead capacity.

Our full-time staff members enjoy an extensive benefit package including but not limited to a generous leave program, 11 standard holidays and 3 floating holidays, CalPERS retirement, medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, flexible spending accounts for medical and dependent care expenses, and a deferred compensation plan including 401(a), 457(b), and Roth options. Nevada County also offers a tuition reimbursement program, and is a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program (https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service) through the Department of Education. And because we care about work-life balance, we also offer flexible schedules and telework options to our staff depending on program needs!

    Why Nevada County?
