    Job Role: Deskside Engineer

     

    Job Location: Onsite (5 days a week): East Hanover, NJ, USA.

    Job Summary:

    We are seeking a **skilled Deskside Engineer** to provide comprehensive support for desktop environments, including deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of end-user devices and related infrastructure. This role involves hands-on technical support for desktops, laptops, mobility devices, and occasionally physical servers and network equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience in manufacturing or lab environments.

    In this role, you will

    + Provide Break-Fix and end-user support activities as required.

    + Install and configure hardware and software components for Windows workstations to ensure usability.

    + Troubleshoot hardware/software issues for Windows workstations and mobility devices.

    + Practitioner-level knowledge in SCCM 2012 and O365 for deployment and management.

    + Support manufacturing “shop-floor” devices such as handhelds, laptops, and scanners.

    + Perform data collection/preservation for migrations and eDiscovery.

    + Deliver Smart Hands and Feet support for technology teams on demand.

    + Provide rack and stack support for commissioning/decommissioning infrastructure devices.

    + Manage physical access for vendors to communication rooms (IDF/MDF/MMR) and data centers.

    + Coordinate and execute power shutdown maintenance, including safe shutdown of network devices and servers.

    + Oversee printer management, usage monitoring, and vendor coordination for continuity.

    + Coordinate cable patching with vendors or enable on demand.

    + Ensure basic network connectivity (LAN), Wi-Fi, video conferencing (Tandberg), printer, and voice services availability.

    + Perform advanced troubleshooting to identify root causes of incidents for IT devices and mobility support.

    + Manage IT asset lifecycle: collection, secure storage, labeling, imaging, allocation, recovery, disposal, and updates.

    + Support manufacturing/lab IT systems and devices, including scanners, rugged tablets, Zebra printers, PCs attached to specialized equipment, and PCs on production lines.

    + Collaborate with multiple teams and OEMs on high-priority issues.

    + Apply advanced Microsoft skills (including server support) and knowledge of GMP/GxP compliance.

    + Work in clean room/manufacturing environments with strong attention to quality and detail.

    What you’ll need to succeed (required skills)

    + Minimum 2 years of deskside support experience.

    + Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

    + Excellent communication and customer support skills.

    + Solid understanding of MS Windows OS, MS Office, and basic business applications.

    + Basic knowledge of networks, telecom, and compute/storage.

    + Advanced knowledge of MacOS & iOS administration, imaging, and endpoint deployment.

    + Familiarity with policy, user certificates, and keychain management.

    + Advanced mobile device support experience.

    Preferred skills: what will help you stand out

    + Familiarity with manufacturing or lab IT environments.

    + Knowledge of GMP/GxP compliance and clean room protocols.

    + Experience with specialized devices (scanners, rugged tablets, Zebra printers).

    + **ITIL certification** preferred; additional certifications (e.g., Microsoft, CompTIA) are a plus.

    Salary and Other Compensation:

    **The annual salary for this position is between $37,000 to $57,000** depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

     

    This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
