**JOB TITLE:** Mgr Safety

**DEPARTMENT:** Generation Safety – Open to Evergy locations, preference toward locations in Topeka or Kansas City
**LOCATION:** Topeka, KS Kansas City, MO
**PAY RANGE:** $107,900 - $143,800 (Min-Mid)
**Scheduled Work Hours: Monday** - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The main focuses in the Manager Safety role are:
* To inspire and lead a team of dedicated safety professionals positioned throughout the Evergy territory.
* To seek out safe working solutions for Evergy stakeholders in partnership with operational leaders.
* To identify best (and safe) practices in the industry and lead change management toward those practices.
* To manage 24/7 support of employee needs, severe event response and safety resources during storm response, outages and emergencies.
* To influence Evergy toward a HOP-based culture through education and inclusion of related principles in all work.
The Manager Safety leads a team of safety professionals in pursuit of safe work methods, training/education, and collaborative resolutions towards a strong safety culture. Maintains healthy partnerships with employees from all levels of the Company and with outside agencies to communicate transparently on safety related items. Provides leadership and recommendations to Evergy stakeholders to maintain compliance with company safety rules and programs, OSHA and other regulatory agencies. Manages and communicates Evergy Safety Rules and Programs impacting frontline workers.
The successful candidate accomplishes this through leveraging the knowledge, skills and experience of a team of safety professionals, knowing the unique challenges of working in a high-hazard environments, and by collaborating with operational leaders to mitigate risk by offering safe and compliant solutions. Actively participates on safety teams and committees, develops and provides Division-wide safety messaging and coordinates investigations and follow-up on events involving Evergy employees and stakeholders. Creates impactful safety material and presents often in diverse audiences.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements:
This position requires a high school diploma or GED and 5 years of focused safety experience. A Bachelor’s Degree in industrial safety, business management, operations or construction is preferred. A minimum of 7 years in safety-related or utility operations experience is preferred. A history of managing people and company-influencing programs will also be considered along with management or construction related certifications.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
Experience is preferred in OSHA regulations including 29CFR 1910 and 1926, as is knowledge of utility specific work and related hazards. Experience with Bargaining Unit Agreements, project management and/or change management is preferred. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to convey information accurately and effectively, excellent comprehension skills, the ability to read, understand and accurately interpret OSHA, EPA, and NFPA regulations and standards, and the ability to create and deliver presentations to diverse internal and external stakeholders.
The successful candidate will also be able to analyze data by identifying the principles, reasons, and facts present and to break down the information into useful parts. They will be able to identify patterns with an awareness of legislations that will affect safety practices and reporting. They will be efficient in their use of the Microsoft Office Suite and be willing to learn and manage other programs utilized by the Evergy Safety Department (SURF, Safety Observations, Power BI and more).
**Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:** Drivers License
**Working Conditions:** Work is performed in office and field settings. Travel to other locations within the company is required. Position requires work beyond normal working hours depending on employee related emergencies, workload, project deadlines, and internal customer needs. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance, a positive attitude, and strong working relationships with all levels of employees including frontline workers and all levels of management.
