    Job Summary

    Join our field crew to establish mixed-species plantings and monitor forest health at research and demonstration sites. You will plant trees, set up and map plots, measure stand structure, and document health indicators that support climate-resilient forestry.

     

    Temporary Employment Services (TES ), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university.TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:

     

    + Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time

    + Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads

    + Assistance with special projects

    + Seasonal work

    + Emergencies

    Essential Functions

    + Plant bareroot and container seedlings; verify spacing; install flags/shelters; record survival

    + Monument plot corners, mark transects, collectGPS points, and set photo stations

    + Measure diameter at breast height, total height, live crown ratio; tally stems and species

    + Document crown condition, defoliation, cankers, insect signs, and storm damage using field guides

    + Rapid canopy/understory cover estimates; occasional shallow soil sampling (0–10 cm)

    + Enter data on a tablet/phone; attach photos; perform basic quality checks

    + Follow heat, hydration, andPPE protocols; maintain tools and gear

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Dependable, safety-first

    + Comfortable outdoors in heat/cold/light rain

    + Able to hike 3–5 miles/day and lift up to 40 pounds

    + Willing to work 6–8-hour field days

    + Careful with measurements and data entry.

    Desired Qualifications

    Coursework or experience in forestry, ecology, biology, environmental science, agriculture, or geography; familiarity with diameter tapes, clinometers,GPS , or mobile data apps; valid driver’s license.
