Position Description
TheIngram School of Engineering (https://www.engineering.txst.edu/) at Texas State University ( TXST ) invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in geotechnical engineering area starting in fall 2026.
Texas State University launched its Civil Engineering (CE) program under the Ingram School of Engineering in 2019. The CE program received EAC ABET accreditation in 2024 and now has 18 faculty members serving 540 undergraduate and 60 graduate and PhD students. In 2024, Texas State established the PhD in CE program, focusing on leadership, innovation, communication, and entrepreneurship in infrastructure. This exclusive program integrates Civil Engineering principles with entrepreneurial skills and technology-enhanced infrastructure ( TEI ), making it the first of its kind in Texas. This initiative highlights the need for infrastructure innovation and supports the university’sRoad to R1 (https://www.president.txst.edu/strategic-vision/run-to-r1/impact.html) goals.
The CE program has excellent laboratory facilities, including the recently opened $15M state-of-the-art Infrastructure Research Laboratory ( IRL ), with a strong floor and reaction wall for complex large-scale geo-structural and material testing. Texas State is leading a USDOT Tier I University Transportation Center “Coastal REsearch And Transportation Education” ( CREATE ), where research activities support coastal infrastructure durability.
The successful candidate will be expected to (a) work toward establishing a sustainable program of funded research in Geotechnical Engineering, including receiving significant external research funding, (b) exhibit a strong commitment to student-centered teaching and advising at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and © perform university and professional service.

Required Qualifications
+ An earned doctorate in civil engineering with a concentration in geotechnical engineering.
+ Demonstrate the potential to build a sustainable and impactful research program in geotechnical engineering.
+ The ability to effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses in fundamental courses related to geotechnical engineering (i.e., soil mechanics, foundation design) as well as the candidate’s specific area of research emphasis in accordance with departmental needs.
+ Professional Licensure/Registration (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure within three years of initial hire.
+ Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Demonstrated interest and expertise in conducting geotechnical research in one or more of the following areas: 1) ground improvement, or 2) geotechnical systems support in the setting of a large-scale structural lab with strong wall and strong floor.
+ Proven ability to secure external funding.
+ Proven ability as an effective instructor of record in undergraduate and graduate academic environments.
+ Professional experience in industry or government agency.
+ Experience advising and mentoring students in academic environments.
