We are seeking a **_Sr. Research Specialist_** who will make intellectual contributions to scientific research interests of the lab. In collaboration with PI, make research project decisions that may alter research objectives and direction. Contribute to writing peer-reviewed manuscripts and grants. Apply independent thought to make decisions with PI.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
+ Develop, design and manage substantial research projects, coordinates own objectives.
+ Perform sophisticated data analysis utilizing extensive knowledge base and varied methods experience. In clinical lab, performs and develops clinical validation protocols.
+ Act as consultant to refine or adapt methodologies to fit research objectives. Collaborates in development of new technologies, protocols and uses of equipment.
+ Co-author publications. Contribute original thoughts, hypotheses, and analysis to write reports, abstracts and manuscripts.
+ Function scientifically in lab similarly to post-doctoral fellow. Independently perform all research assays specific to the research laboratory interests.
+ May provide work direction to staff, including recommendations for hire/fire, and evaluation of performance.
+ Enhance problem solving through interactions and discussions with collaborators or senior researchers at meetings and or professional presentations.
+ Make decisions regarding research projects that may require assessment, revision of objectives, or altering scientific direction; considers resources and lab priorities when making decisions.
+ Performs other related duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field
+ Four years of experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Master's Degree with related graduate research.
Technical Skills and Expected Level of Proficiency
+ Basic laboratory methods/techniques associated with genetics and molecular biology such as isolation of DNA and RNA, PCR, quantitative real-time PCR, DNA cloning, DNA sequencing, quantitative and qualitative analyses of DNA, RNA, and protein molecules, as well as other functional and enzymatic assays and buffer/solution preparation. **Advanced to expert**
+ Independently performs various higher-level assays, including library preparation for short-read and long-read next-generation sequencing techniques such as RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, Cut & Run, Cut & Tag, whole genome-bisulfite sequencing, Oxford Nanopore Technology long-read sequencing, and others. **Advanced to** **expert**
+ Performs basic and advanced cell culture techniques, including maintaining and differentiating induced pluripotent stem cell-derived models. **Intermediate to Advanced**
+ Independently maintains mouse colonies, performs intra-peritoneal injections and other minor procedures on mice, performs dissection of mice for anatomical and histological studies, harvests and prepares tissues for molecular and phenotypic analyses, performs transcardial perfusions. **Advanced to expert**
+ Uses light/fluorescence/confocal microscope and other equipment and computer programs to analyze data and uses statistical programs to perform analyses. **Advanced to expert**
+ Managerial skills, including overall organization, upkeep, and operational elements of laboratory, including conducting routine safety tests and ensuring protocols (including biosafety protocols) are current, maintaining equipment, and ordering supplies. This includes daily ordering of all laboratory consumables, reagents, supplies, and equipment; maintaining financial records; managerial budgetary duties to ensure charges, invoices, and orders are correctly routed to the proper grant. **Advanced**

Starting Salary Range: $48,000 - $84,100 Annually ($63,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
