Summary About the Position: An ideal candidate will have strong experience in heavy equipment operations. Possesses extensive experience and in depth knowledge of maintenance procedures, inspections, and documentation. Ideal candidate will have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and desire to work with a small but diverse team at a multipurpose flood control Project with public land recreation and natural resource management mission. Responsibilities Operates a variety of engineering and construction equipment to perform maintenance and repairs of the dam and its engineered features, roads, trails and in support of natural resource management and protection activities. Operates dump truck with low boy trailer to safely haul heavy equipment to and from work sites to perform maintenance of the dam and its engineered features, roads and trails, and in support of natural resource management, and protection activities. Performs journey-level maintenance and repair of electrical, heating, plumbing and emergency power systems in the Project office and visitor kiosk facilities. Inspects, maintains and performs minor and major repairs to mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and power generating equipment and systems in the dam. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs to heavy engineering equipment, Project owned vehicles, riverboats, snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles. Identifies, recommends, schedules and inspects contracted maintenance and repair work. Maintains shop manuals, equipment logbooks and maintenance documentation systems. Collects records and reports stream flow measurements during the operating season and flood events. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator (Maintenance Mechanic) without more than normal supervision. Operate and maneuver one or more types of gasoline or diesel powered heavy equipment in support of flood risk, and natural resources management on flat or rolling terrain and steer and operate engineering equipment by using clutches, levers, brakes, and valves according to the slope or tilt. I can perform basic maintenance and repair of electrical, heating, plumbing, electrical work, carpentry and landscaping work. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work may be completed in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, climbing, crouching and straining in awkward positions. Heavy physical effort is sometimes used to reach, push, turn and move requiring coordination of hands, feet, arms, and legs to operate controls for all types of equipment. Work can involve lifting and carrying objects exceeding 50 pounds. Equipment and vehicle operation over rough surfaces for long periods results in constant vibration and uncomfortable body movements. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside regardless of weather conditions. Hazards exist when working around moving equipment, electricity, hydraulic equipment, fuels and chemicals. Nature of work is loud, dirty, dusty and greasy. Approved protective clothing and equipment will be furnished as prescribed by policy to provide the best protection against any known or anticipated hazardous condition encountered. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
