Job Description
We are seeking a Principal AME Equipment Engineer to define and implement the long-term process and equipment strategy for our vehicle General Assembly lines. This role requires expertise in conveyance, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), robotic fastening, fluid fill, and specialized torque control tooling. You will lead the entire equipment lifecycle from concept to continuous improvement and play a critical role in new facility and line setup.
Responsibilities
+ Define and implement long-term process and equipment strategy for vehicle General Assembly lines.
+ Lead the full equipment lifecycle: concept, specification, vendor selection, design review, fabrication, installation, commissioning, ramp-up, and continuous improvement.
+ Plan and execute the process, flow planning, layout, and installation of new General Assembly lines.
+ Act as the technical expert for all General Assembly equipment.
+ Partner with equipment suppliers to lead technical discussions, negotiate specifications, and ensure on-time delivery and performance.
+ Lead vehicle design and product engineering teams to optimize designs for manufacturability and assembly.
+ Drive continuous improvement for equipment performance, uptime, yield, and cycle time.
+ Collaborate with Vehicle Design, Quality, Operations, and Facilities teams to ensure successful project execution.
Essential Skills
+ At least 15+ years of experience in advanced manufacturing engineering.
+ 8+ years focused on General Assembly equipment in the automotive EV or high-volume manufacturing industry.
+ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
+ Deep expertise in General Assembly processes and equipment, including robotic applications.
+ Strong understanding of automation principles, robotics, machine vision, and control systems.
+ Proficiency in CAD software for reviewing equipment designs and layouts.
+ Proven project management experience.
+ Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with a startup environment is preferred.
+ Practice of Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
+ Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification is desirable.
Work Environment
This position requires up to 25% travel domestically and internationally. The role involves working with advanced technologies in a dynamic and collaborative environment. Proficiency in using CAD software and an understanding of automation and robotics systems are essential.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Garden Grove, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $170000.00 - $190000.00/yr.
