Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal AME Equipment Engineer to lead the strategic planning and execution of equipment strategies for battery cell and pack manufacturing. This role involves full lifecycle management of equipment, from concept to high-volume production, with a focus on optimizing performance, safety, and compliance.
Responsibilities
+ Define and implement long-term equipment strategies aligning with product roadmaps and production targets.
+ Lead the entire equipment lifecycle, including concept, specification, vendor selection, design review, installation, commissioning, ramp-up, and continuous improvement.
+ Plan, layout, and install new battery manufacturing lines, ensuring space optimization and seamless equipment integration.
+ Act as the technical expert for battery manufacturing equipment.
+ Partner with equipment suppliers for technical discussions and ensure on-time delivery and performance.
+ Collaborate with design and engineering teams to optimize manufacturability and assembly on automated equipment.
+ Drive continuous improvement of equipment performance, uptime, yield, and cycle time through data and root cause analysis.
+ Ensure equipment designs and installations meet safety standards and industry regulations.
+ Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams for successful project execution and integration of new equipment.
Essential Skills
+ 13+ years of experience in advanced manufacturing engineering, with at least 8+ years in battery manufacturing equipment.
+ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
+ Expertise in cell, module, and battery manufacturing processes.
+ Proven track record in bringing complex manufacturing equipment online.
+ Strong understanding of automation principles, robotics, and control systems.
+ Experience with equipment specification, procurement, and vendor qualification.
+ Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, 3DX, or AutoCAD.
+ Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
+ Self-starter with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Proven experience in factory layout planning and utility integration.
+ Experience in scaling manufacturing lines within new or expanding facilities.
+ Strong negotiation skills for contract discussions.
+ Team and result-oriented mindset.
+ Willingness to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally for vendor visits and installations.

This role operates within a fast-paced and dynamic environment, requiring a proactive approach to problem-solving and equipment management. The position necessitates travel up to 25% for vendor interactions and on-site support. The ideal candidate will thrive in an ambiguous startup setting, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Garden Grove, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $170000.00 - $190000.00/yr.
