Position Summary
The Powder Coater is responsible for preparing, coating, and curing metal components to achieve high-quality, durable finishes that meet Trident Maritime Systems’ production and defense standards. This role requires hands-on experience with electrostatic spray systems, oven curing verification, and defect troubleshooting. The Powder Coater will work closely with Production, Quality, and Planning teams to ensure consistent color, finish, and adhesion across aluminum and steel components used in naval modular furniture manufacturing.
Key ResponsibilitiesSurface Preparation & Pretreatment
• Clean, sand, mask, and rack parts to ensure optimal adhesion and grounding.
• Closely monitor, maintain, and adjust chemical concentrations in multiple wash stations.
Application & Curing
• Set up and operate manual or booth-based electrostatic powder coating equipment.
• Adjust voltage, flow, and pattern settings to achieve even coverage and proper film build on complex geometries.
• Load and unload ovens; verify metal temperature cure profiles per specification.
Quality & Documentation
• Measure and record coating thickness, gloss, and adhesion results per internal and MIL-spec standards.
• Identify and correct finish defects such as orange peel, pinholes, thin coverage, or contamination.
• Maintain accurate traveler documentation and ensure powder lot traceability.
Equipment & Material Management
• Perform routine maintenance on guns, booths, and filters.
• Track powder usage, apply FIFO rotation, and prevent expired material use.
Safety & Continuous Improvement
• Follow all PPE, environmental, and safety requirements for powder coating operations.
• Participate in 5S and Lean initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
• Collaborate with Quality and Management to refine processes and maintain consistent finish standards.
Qualifications
• Minimum 2 years of professional powder coating experience in industrial or architectural metal finishing.
• Skilled in electrostatic spray application, film build control, and cure verification.
• Proficient with film-thickness, gloss, and adhesion testing tools.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for grounding, coverage, and cure issues.
• Ability to read travelers, finish specs, and QA documentation.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
Compensation & Schedule
• Pay range: $22.00 – $26.00 per hour, based on experience.
• Standard shift: 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM, Monday–Friday.
