    Robert Half is partnering with a boutique public accounting firm in New York City known for its personalized, high-touch approach and neighborhood feel. The team serves clients from all walks of life and across a wide range of industries, building long-term relationships through accuracy, professionalism, and exceptional client care. The tax practice has grown steadily, and the firm is seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to join a collaborative, service-oriented environment.

    Position Overview

    The Tax Accountant will focus primarily on preparing and reviewing individual tax returns, while also assisting with corporate filings and general bookkeeping. This is a hands-on role for someone who can work independently, manage multiple engagements, and communicate clearly and professionally with clients.

     

    This role is fully onsite in the NYC office, Monday–Friday.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Prepare and review individual tax returns (1040s and related schedules).

    + Assist with corporate, S-corp, and partnership tax returns (1120, 1120S, 1065).

    + Support bookkeeping and general ledger maintenance for a variety of clients.

    + Prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and support monthly/quarterly closings.

    + Communicate directly with clients to gather documentation and resolve tax questions.

    + Manage multiple tax engagements and deadlines independently.

    + Research tax issues and support tax planning initiatives.

    + Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.

    + Maintain organized workpapers and deliver accurate, timely filings.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    + 5+ years of tax experience within a public accounting firm, with strong individual tax expertise.

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

    + Strong understanding of federal and NY/NJ/CT state tax laws.

    + Proficiency with UltraTax and QuickBooks; experience with ProSeries or similar software is a plus.

    + Ability to work independently and take ownership of client assignments.

    + Excellent communication skills and professionalism when working directly with clients.

    + Strong attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple priorities.
