JOB SUMMARY
The Monitor Technician 2 is responsible for overseeing the continuous monitoring, recording, interpreting, and documenting the electrocardiograph tracings of patients (of all ages) on telemetry monitors and follows the critical escalation path when appropriate. This position recognizes and reports arrhythmias to medical or nursing staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Operates complex cardiac monitoring systems, including ECG rhythm screens, computerized dysrhythmia detection system and rhythm printers.
Observes and documents ECG monitors according to established guidelines, and reports to appropriate staff the necessary information such as patient name, room number, cardiac rhythm, dysrhythmia, and life-threatening situations.
Maintains and monitors equipment /environment and reports any malfunctions to the appropriate maintenance department.
Sets up central station. Monitors alarms, troubleshoots false alarms, and corrects improper lead placement.
Assists with rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia detection. Labels monitor strips to indicate significant events such as defibrillation, electrical-cardioversion, CPR and code medication administration.
Records information in patient's log and maintains accurate, neat account of patient's cardiac monitoring status during episode of care. Identifies and records patient's rhythm and changes in patient rhythm and condition.
Serves as Monitor Tech Lead in assigned unit/department. Directs, coordinates and participates in overseeing of effective operations of the Monitor tech Staff ensuring the highest quality patient care is delivered and proper competencies completed.
Performs other position appropriate duties as required by leadership in a competent, professional, and courteous manner. while adhering to policies and procedures, actively disseminates information as appropriate, ensuring proper coverage of personnel, and maintaining clear communication with leadership regarding unit needs and/or incidents
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Completes required competencies annually.
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart in relation to waves, complexes, time and voltage as shown through conduction system and strip interpretation. Knowledge of telemetry services.
Ability to oversee personnel effectively and efficiently.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills.
Ability to work cooperatively with members of the healthcare delivery team.
Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in the workload and work schedules.

- EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
