    Position Summary

    LINCOLN COUNTY TRANSIT - BRIDGING COMMUNITIES

    The Lincoln County Transit Department is looking to add a full time driver for the Lincoln City loop. This person will operate an 8 to 35-passenger bus in a manner that provides safe, courteous, reliable, and efficient passenger transportation while complying with all applicable Federal, state, and local laws in accordance with Transit policy and procedures.

     

    $21.22 - $25.36 per hour*

     

    *Lincoln County follows Oregon Pay Equity laws in reviewing education and experience for wage offer.

     

    This is a FULL TIME, 40 hours per week, benefited position.

    Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

    JOB FUNCTIONS

    Operates an 8 to 35 passenger bus on various routes and schedules providing service to persons with disabilities, the elderly, and the public:

    + Complete vehicle pre and post trip inspections following regulations and guidelines designated by federal and state Department of Transportation (DOT).

    + Assist passengers, as needed, with boarding or disembarking and with personal miscellaneous articles.

    + Utilize various installed bus features to load, unload and secure passenger and assistance equipment.

    + Complete, prepare, and submit required paperwork accurately, including but not limited to time sheets, daily trip sheets, incident, accident, and referral forms.

    + Maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of vehicles which may involve outdoor work in inclement weather.

    + Operate two-way radio/phone for professional routine communications with dispatcher and other transit vehicles.

    + Responsible for fare collection and accountability.

    + Distribute and manage bus pass sales.

    + Ensure bus is fueled and supplied to ready service status.

    + Promote good passenger relations by providing positive treatment of passengers.

    + Greet passengers in a tactful and courteous manner.

    + Assist with seating, questions, directions, and other service-related matters.

    + Assures passenger comfort, safety, and security.

     

    Shares transit skills and assists new drivers with learning the various routes and schedules.

    Typical Qualifications

    EDUCATION

    High School Diploma / GED

    EXPERIENCE

    One year transit or similar driving experience with multiple passengers.

    LICENSE

    CDL License required at time of hire

     

    Must possess a valid Oregon class A or B commercial driver's license with a passenger endorsement and have a current DOT medical examiner's certificate.

    Knowledge of:

    + Traffic laws.

    + Safety and security rules applicable to the transportation of passengers.

    Skill or ability to:

    + Learn and explain regular transit and Dial-A-Ride operating practices and procedures.

    + Learn and practice safety and security rules and procedures required in public transit.

    + Assure the proper and safe seating and securement of the very young, including infants.

    + Learn bus routes, schedules, streets and locations within the transit district service area.

    + Drive under all conditions of weather, roadways, and traffic.

    + Resolve customer complaints courteously and tactfully and maintain a courteous, professional approach when dealing with the public.

    + Read and interpret maps.

    + Remain flexible in handling changes.

    + Maintain accurate records and reports.

    + Relate effectively with people of varied age, physical condition, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, using tact, diplomacy and courtesy.

    + Undergo hands on fire extinguisher training and bus evacuation procedure training.

    + Convey information, ideas, and facts both orally and in writing to supervisors, colleagues, and individuals, inside and outside the county, using language and a format the audience will best understand.

    + Utilize computers and other technology to communicate in written and verbal forms (e.g., word processing, texts, emails, spreadsheets, department-specific software).

    + Effectively relate well with others, including supervisors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the county. Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and working to maintain constructive working relationships.

    + Take personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work. Show up to work on time, and follows instructions, policies, and procedures. Meet productivity standards, deadlines, and work schedules.

    Lincoln County offers a comprehensive benefit package including vacation, holiday, and sick leave as well as medical, dental, vision which is paid at 90% by the County and 10% by the employee. Other fully paid benefits include life, AD&D, long-term disability insurance. Other optional insurances are available. A 401K retirement plan is also provided. The County's current contribution rate is 11%.

     

    Regular and Trial Service employees working between 20 - 39 hours per week on a regular basis are eligible for pro-rated employee benefits.
