The Sr. Principal Giving Briefings Associate is an individual contributor role, responsible for a high level of internal navigation, project management, stewardship, and proposal development in Development and Alumni Relations. The successful candidate will be responsible for gathering and communicating relevant data (including budget development, peer benchmarking) in appropriate formats for donors, internal stakeholders, institutional leaders, and programs across DAR. The Sr. Principal Giving Briefings Associate will report on individual and collective development progress and forecasts and will partner with colleagues across the institution to ensure that information is accurate and current for stewardship, donor solicitation and organizational strategy.
The Sr. Principal Giving Briefings Associate is a critical member of the Office of Principal Giving Briefings Team, leveraging sophisticated writing and communications skills to collect, digest, and advise on strategy for crucial principal giving level donors and prospective donors. The Sr Associate works in a fast-paced environment, often acting as a collaborative driver for quick report turnaround and stakeholder alignment up to the presidential office level.
Key responsibilities:
_Proposal/Program Development:_
+ Working with leadership, draft and create visuals for budget models for programming, proposals, gift agreements, and MOUs.
+ Work closely with leaders within and beyond DAR to collect information, review data quality and visualize findings and facts for internal and external audiences.
+ Identify the data resources available and needed to create or manage a set of reporting tools that help understand the history, the current state, and the forecast of programs for the next 3-5 years.
+ Provide project support for organization-wide projects/initiatives as required, facilitating team efforts and helping to define project goals, timelines, resource requirements, and planning to cope with conflict or stressor points in the plans
+ Staff and support university leadership on strategic planning sessions for groups to clarify, communicate, and act upon the vision and goals of their department/division within the context of the university’s mission, vision, and values.
_Strategic Communications, Reporting and Stewardship:_
+ Implement overall communications strategy for the designated executive leadership function, including written, verbal, and multimedia messaging.
+ In partnership with leadership support the ongoing, personalized stewardship of external relationships for Johns Hopkins, including the writing and editing of materials, particularly related to the impact of philanthropic support.
+ Collaborate with leadership to craft compelling narratives that highlight the impact of philanthropic support.
+ Manage the creation and dissemination of strategic communication materials, including reports, presentations, and digital content.
+ As directed, prepare and share a variety of communications internal and external to the University, including announcements, memos, briefings, presentations, and stories.
_Cross-Institutional Collaboration and Partnerships:_
+ At the direction of leadership, build close partnerships with program across DAR to allow for more seamless identifying, collecting, and recording of data.
+ Establish and maintain positive, productive, collaborative relationships with Directors and development officers across divisions.
+ Develop an understanding of divisional fundraising and academic priorities and consult with DOFFs about emerging opportunities or communication needs.
+ Build effective follow-up and follow-through mechanisms for partnerships across the institution.
+ Other duties as assigned.
In addition to the duties described above, the Sr. Principal Giving Briefings Associate will:
+ Develop and write briefings to prepare the president, provost, and university leadership for principal-level meetings and stewardship events.
+ Analyze and synthesize significant amounts of information from development officers, research team members, and other sources.
+ Perform independent research as needed.
+ Writes meeting objectives and strategic discussion points for leadership development meetings based on conversation with stakeholders.
+ Follow up with the appropriate leadership or development officers to ensure all details and materials needed are readily available in an appropriate amount of time prior to donor visits.
+ Draft correspondence for the president, provost, and university leadership in follow-up to meetings/communication; acknowledge gifts and to recognize important milestones.
+ Review selected acknowledgement letters generated by the Office of Stewardship and Donor Engagement (SDE).
+ Act as a liaison for the Office of Principal Gifts for the correspondence tracking system, an automated system used by SDE, Principal Gifts, and the Office of the President to follow correspondence from initiation to delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field.
+ Three years of progressively responsible related experience in development, communications, or external relations.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Advanced degree.
+ Professional report creation, graphic design, or grant writing experience
+ Experience in creating briefings for executive level leadership
+ Demonstrated excellence in writing, editing, and analytical skills; have the ability to handle multiple tasks and problem solve; be adaptable to changing priorities; be able to organize large amounts of information and write concisely and accurately within a time frame.
+ Be able to provide writing samples.
+ Experience in writing for higher education and/or public health is desirable.
+ Experience in academic or large nonprofit institutions, preferably in the advancement, development, or donor relations environments

Starting Salary Range: Minimum: $62,899 - Maximum: $110,100 (targeted salary: $70,000; commensurate with experience)
