Job Purpose or Objective(s):
The Senior Aerospace Technologist within the Advanced Technology Initiatives (ATI) department will lead the planning, development, and oversight of advanced aerospace operations, technology projects, and systems integration efforts. This role is responsible for ensuring technology excellence and regulatory compliance, particularly with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)—while supporting the design and implementation of innovative aviation technologies across a multidisciplinary team.
Primary Tasks:
1. Lead aerospace systems technology activities related to advanced aviation projects, including conceptual design, systems integration, prototyping, and operational deployment.
2. Oversee the technology and operational performance of ATI programs, including unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), advanced air mobility (AAM), and next-generation aviation infrastructure.
3. Ensure efficient and cost-effective management of technical operations, facilities, sponsored programs, and technology development initiatives.
4. Support the Executive Director in technologies project budget management, resource allocation, and forecasting to align technical strategy with organizational priorities.
5. Develop, implement, and enforce technology standards, protocols, and policies for evaluating and adopting emerging technologies, ensuring alignment with safety and regulatory requirements.
6. Provide technology guidance and technical oversight for R&D programs, including those funded through grants, cooperative agreements, and industry partnerships.
7. Evaluate system performance, conduct risk analyses, and lead mitigation planning to ensure the reliability, safety, and scalability of aviation technologies.
8. Collaborate within a cross-functional team of technologist, analysts, and stakeholders to solve challenges in UAS integration, navigation systems, autonomous operations, and digital aviation.
9. Maintain strong partnerships with industry leaders, regulatory bodies, and academic institutions. Lead collaborative efforts to pursue innovative engineering solutions.
10. Represent the organization in technical discussions and regulatory meetings with FAA, DOT, and other governmental and commercial entities.
11. Author and review technical proposals, technology documentation, system specifications, and design reports to support innovation and compliance.
12. Participate in relevant conferences, technical workshops, training programs, and stakeholder engagement efforts.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
+ B.S. in an aviation related discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or;
+ 10 years of relevant experience in lieu of education
+ Proficiency in aerospace systems design, testing, and performance evaluation
+ Experience working directly with FAA regulations, including certifications, waivers, or program approvals
+ Proven ability to analyze and manage complex technical projects from concept through execution
+ Effective leadership in multi-disciplinary teams, with a strong ability to communicate complex technical ideas to diverse audiences
+ Strong knowledge of aerospace operations, risk assessment, and system safety protocols
+ Demonstrated experience working directly with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
