    Completion of an MSN program is required for the Assistant Director title. Final candidates will be selected for a job title within the career ladder that reflects the level of education, experience, and manager discretion at the time of offer.

    About Shadyside School of Nursing:

    The mission of UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing is to foster the development of an entry-level graduate nurse who is prepared to transition to practice as a member of the interprofessional healthcare team. The school is part of UPMC Shadyside which is part of the UPMC health system. The focus of our program is mastery of high-level competencies reflecting the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for the delivery of safe, quality nursing care.

     

    The Assistant Director of the Schools of Nursing handles organizing, planning, implementing, and coordinating the professional (RN) nursing programs and student success strategies at UPMC Schools of Nursing under the direction of the directors of the respective programs.

    Responsibilities:

    + Serve as a consultant and resource for faculty, students, nursing staff, and other departments while maintaining professional, respectful relationships and clear, effective communication with colleagues and leadership.

    + Provide leadership within the department, school, and community by modeling professionalism, mentoring new faculty, and actively participating in professional organizations and interdisciplinary teams.

    + Support faculty and students in developing critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and independent learning skills. Guide faculty in supervising students who provide nursing care across all developmental stages.

    + Demonstrate expertise in curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation. Lead or assist with departmental and institutional initiatives, including systematic program evaluation and major school or hospital projects.

    + Promote a positive and productive work environment by initiating and embracing constructive change, addressing challenges proactively, and contributing innovative solutions to achieve departmental and organizational goals.

    + Pursue professional development through ongoing education, research, participation in forums and committees, and engagement in community or volunteer activities. Contribute to scholarly work through presentations and publications.

    + Maintain high standards of performance for faculty and students by providing clear expectations, objective feedback, and consistent support in alignment with school policies and goals. _Note:_ _This description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, duties, or expectations. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed to meet the evolving needs of the department and organization._

    + A master's degree in nursing is required

    + 3 years of experience in teaching preferred

    + Education leadership experience strongly preferred

    + Demonstrated competence in professional nursing practice, nursing education, and educational administration of a practical and registered nursing program.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + Registered Nurse (RN)

    + Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

    + CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

    + Act 33 with renewal

    + Act 34 with renewal
