Summary:
Performs Nuclear Medicine Procedures by preparing, administering and measuring radioactive isotopes for therapeutic, diagnostic and other tracer studies using a variety of radioisotopes and equipment
Responsibilities:
• 1. Calculate, measure and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceutical received, used and disposed, using computer and following physicians' prescription.
• 2. Detect and map radiopharmaceutical in patient's bodies using a camera to produce photographic or computer images for physician interpretation.
• 3. Perform quality control checks on laboratory equipment.
• 4. Maintain and calibrate radioisotope and laboratory equipment.
• 5. Dispose of radioactive materials and store radiopharmaceutical, following radiation safety procedures and regulatory guidelines.
• 6. Prepare radiopharmaceutical, adhering to safety standards that minimize radiation exposure to workers and patients.
• 7. Explain test procedures and safety precautions to patients and provide them with assistance during test procedure.
OTHER JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• 1. Prepares room, equipment, and materials as needed.
• 2. Prepare patients for nuclear medicine examinations, by explaining procedures, positioning patients for imaging and monitoring patients and equipment throughout procedures.
• 3. Consistently demonstrates competence in performing nuclear medicine procedures.
• 4. Observes patient and equipment during procedure, reports unusual occurrences and records patient’s condition.
• 5. Maintains professional, courteous, and cooperative manner with patients, co-workers, and public.
• 6. Follows proper procedure for clerical and administrative tasks as related to job.
• 7. Exercises initiative as appropriate in performance of duties.
• 8. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the Hospital Information System and Isite (PACS) and completes documentation of exams.
• 9. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.
• 10. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• 11. Demonstrates growth in nuclear medicine field. Attends appropriate continuing education programs to maintain/develop skills and knowledge.
• 12. Supports customer service and performance improvement goals of the department.
• 13. Maintains standards of confidentiality.
• 14. On-call Responsibilities.
• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Credentials:
PA DEP License in Nuclear Medicine Technology. (Required)
ARRT (N) or NMTCB (CNMT) certification within 6 months of hire. (Required)
ARRT (N) or NMTCB (CNMT) CT fusion certification within 12 months of hire (Required)
BLS certification (Required)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
1 year experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in a hospital setting preferred.
(Required) Graduate of a CHEA, AMA, and/or JRCNMT Nuclear Medicine program, or equivalent
