Summary:
Join Meta Reality Labs and help define the next generation of Wearables and Mixed Reality experiences. Our Display, Optics, Camera, Depth and Sensors team is pioneering advanced optical systems that seamlessly merge physical and digital worlds, bringing reality through cutting-edge wearable technology. In this team we work on developing breakthrough solutions for see-through and immersive systems, designing comprehensive test frameworks, characterization protocols, and metrology solutions that ensure our displays and optical components meet the highest performance standards. Our teams seamlessly transition between strategic system-level thinking and precision-focused implementation, maturing our architectures from early concepts to production-ready designs. As a core team member, you'll explore uncharted territories for next-generation wearable devices and you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams spanning cameras, sensors, depth perception, optics, and displays, translating visions into tangible engineering solutions.

Optical Engineer - Cover Windows Responsibilities:
1. Lead cross-functional teams in the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge optical solutions for new optics architectures, utilizing novel materials and processes
2. Identify, incubate, and productize optical technologies that have the potential to revolutionize the field of wearable optics
3. Specify key performance metrics, test methods, and test requirements for optical components and systems
4. Develop and maintain technical roadmaps
5. Interface with stakeholders and leadership to influence product roadmaps
6. Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor activity
7. Manage budgets, resources, and collaborations with global vendors
Minimum Qualifications:

8. Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline
9. 8+ years of industry experience with a proven track record of full product development cycle in consumer electronics or similar related field
10. Experience and expertise in these areas or similar related technologies: optical design software, geometrical optics, wave optics, and polarization optics, optical materials, coatings, and manufacturing processes, Imaging optics design and manufacturing, display optics, optical sensing, optical system integration and testing
11. Technical leadership, communication, and project management skills
12. Problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills

13. Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
14. 8+ years of experience developing optical components or systems and 3+ years of experience in an industrial technical leadership role
15. Proven track record of taking optical products from concept to launch, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams
16. Foundation in optics fundamentals, including imaging, illumination, radiometry, colorimetry, physical and geometrical optics
17. Skilled in sequential and non-sequential optical analysis (Zemax, CodeV, FRED or LightTools)
18. Knowledge of optical materials and coatings for cover windows or world-exposed optical surfaces, including the skill to specify and evaluate these coatings
19. Proficient in optical metrology instrumentation (e.g., spectrometers, interferometers, scatterometers, lab microscopes, hazemeters) and measurement techniques (e.g., MTF, distortion, surface form and roughness, BSDF, TWE)
20. Proficient in data analysis and image processing using JMP, MATLAB or Python
21. Experience with manufacturing processes and verification for optical components (e.g., injection-molded lenses, cover windows)
22. Demonstrated expertise in optical design, tolerance analysis, testing, and verification
23. Familiarity with system integration and calibration, with experience in camera and depth optical systems analysis and modeling
24. Analytical skills and hands-on experience in debugging and failure analysis of optical components and systems
Public Compensation:
$170,000/year to $240,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
