Location Description
Michael Foods, Inc. located in Lenox, Iowa and often called the "Pearl of the Prairie" is where you can find small town living, focused on family and friends, with big city amenities not far from reach in Des Moines, Omaha, and Kansas City. Located in southwest Iowa, Taylor county, with a population of around 1400, the Lenox area reaches far beyond the city limits with beautiful and productive fields of corn, beans, and other croplands. Lenox holds an amazing four day Rodeo every July and is home to a beautiful 36-9 hole golf course, several fishing and boating lakes, great area hunting, a beautiful city park with swimming pool, and many picnic parks. The MFI location in Lenox produces primarily pre-cooked egg patties. Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Plant Operations Manager, the Scheduling/Purchasing Manager is responsible for supporting the overall production and materials network by both ensuring that all material and ingredients needed in the production process are supplied in a timely basis, and securing a seamless movement of raw materials into production. Key components of the functional responsibilities are Material Planning, Production Planning, and Inventory Optimization. The position provides leadership to the Planning and Receiving personnel.
This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Implements procurement strategy for bill of material items
• Implements an inventory strategy that supports MFI goals and direction for raw and package
materials to minimize carrying cost while maintaining service levels to production
• Responsible for implementing the process for production scheduling according to product
orders and ship dates while optimizing finished goods inventory. This includes the actual
production plan on a weekly basis.
• Ensures inventory accuracy through an effective cycle count program including best practices
on daily material usage in production (Corrects and minimizes theoretical SAP shrink
assumptions).
• Oversees the planning and receiving personnel (hourly and salaried), manages their
performance, provides leadership, coaching, direction and frequent feedback as well as
training and development opportunities.
• Ensures use of purchasing systems is maximized to integrate our financial systems while
developing history of purchasing practices.
• Provides guidelines and discipline to the purchasing function for all purchased items within
Lenox with support and insight from MFI Purchasing.
• Implements processes to ensure proper controls are in place while streamlining as much as
possible.
• Ensures that system tools are utilized to maximize efficiency of department.
• Develops and implements key metrics relative to purchasing/planning function.
• Provides schedule needs to the procurement process to ensure all activities are coordinated
and costs are contained.
• Effectively communicates cross functionally to deliver the production schedule.
• Ensure process for ongoing communication between functional areas is streamlined and
complete.
• Facilitates teams, training and functional interaction meetings for direction, decision making,
information sharing and consensus building.
• Participates in production meetings and advises management of the status of work in progress,
material availability and potential production problems.
• Communicates with the Demand and Supply Planning, Customer Service, Marketing, Production,
Quality Control, Engineering and Sales departments on a regular basis to resolve potential
schedule interruptions.
• Supports and leads various plant/company teams, and goals. And Actively participates in crossfunctional continuous improvement teams.
• Accountable for a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and
procedures and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
• Adhere to Quality work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that
product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may
adversely affect food safety and quality.
• Responsible for Food Safety and Food Quality of MFI products.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE REQUIRED:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
• 5+ years of experience in production and supervision.
• Supervise personnel in a manufacturing environment
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles preferred
• Demonstrated strong communication and organizational methods.

The pay range for this position is $89,207 - $139,163 per year.
