    Under the administrative supervision of Mirror’s Director of Prevention and Community Engagement , the Community Mobilizer will work to build capacity for prevention in Harvey County, building relationships within the community and carrying out evidence-based prevention initiatives. Assisting with coalition and youth initiatives, the Community Mobilizer will work alongside all prevention staff within the department to ensure that grant requirements and action plan goals are accomplished. Activities include management of grants outcomes, budgets, and reporting, building community engagement, and knowledge of county-wide youth drug and alcohol trends.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Assist Prevention department in community engagement initiatives and community capacity for prevention initiatives.

    + Present timely prevention updates and youth drug trends to schools and community partners.

    + Strategically and creatively problem-solve local substance use environment issues, overcome barriers, and work collaboratively with community sector partners to reach prevention goals.

    + Engage underserved populations within Harvey County in prevention initiatives, coalition initiatives, and prevention education efforts.

    + Provide information, education, and awareness on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

    + Document coalition activities for grant requirements according to deadlines. Documentation of numbers, stories, data, accomplishments, timely submission of grant reports, and communicating quarterly or semiannually throughout the year to stakeholders, school personnel, community leaders, students, and staff.

    + Contribute to the creation and distribution of effective and evidence-informed marketing and messaging campaign materials via printed materials and social media management using best practices, adult and youth input. Create brochures, flyers, and other effective messaging and campaign materials to impact youth, adults, community, and families, ensuring cultural competence and messaging is within the scope of the program.

    + Attend relevant training, seminars, workshops, and classes to enhance skills and expertise.

    + Familiarity with or the ability to b ecome familiar with Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug community assessment data, trends, and prevention science planning and theoretical models.

    + Carry out duties assigned by the Director of Prevention and Community Engagement.

    Qualifications

    + Graduate of a four-year accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Health, Social work, Sociology, Psychology or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + Past experience or demonstrated skill in establishing and cultivating strong relationships with youth and adults. Ability to be sensitive and responsive to cultural and ethnic differences of the population served.

    + Excellent interpersonal skills required as well as ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Experience or skill development in public relations and/or public speaking is desirable.

    + Capable of maintaining a cooperative team spirit and working cooperatively with others.

    + Must be adaptable to change and have effective organizational skills. Employee must be able to organize and follow through on multiple tasks with a proven ability to work independently.

    + Participate in specialized training or continuing education in the programs dealing with the prevention of substance abuse in youth.

    + Display consistent, good judgment and decision-making skills.

    + Must be able to pass agency-required background or security check.

    + Employees who have been diagnosed with any type of substance use disorder or behavioral health addiction/compulsion must have sustained a minimum of two consecutive years of abstinence from all intoxicating substances and symptoms of their chemical and/or behavioral addiction; and must be in full sustained remission.

    + Understanding of basic media skills, relations, and methods.

    + Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, familiar with main social media platforms used by youth, and a basic understanding of Excel.

    + This position may also involve bending, walking stairs, and lifting 40 pounds on occasion. Must be able to carry items related to your presentations from office to training site.
