Join a small, dedicated team focused on building North Carolina’s first freestanding children’s hospital and world-class children’s health system.
Summary:
Reporting directly to the Chief Philanthropy Officer for NC Children’s, the Assistant Vice President, Philanthropy (Transformational Philanthropy) will play a pivotal role in shaping and securing the visionary investments that will define the future of NC Children’s.
This leader will oversee the identification, cultivation, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals and organizations with the capacity to make gifts of $10 million or more. The AVP will design and execute a comprehensive strategic and annual operating plan for transformational giving by setting clear goals, tracking performance, and reporting progress as part of NC Children’s broader philanthropic and organizational accountability framework. In partnership with institutional leadership and faculty, this role will help articulate bold, compelling cases for support, translating complex ideas into powerful philanthropic opportunities.
Responsibilities:
+ Design and execute a focused strategy to identify, engage, solicit, and steward individuals and organizations capable of making gifts of $10 million and above, driving the vision and impact of NC Children’s.
+ Personally manage a select portfolio of individuals, families, and foundations with the capacity to make landmark investments that advance children’s health in North Carolina and beyond.
+ Create tailored engagement and solicitation strategies for top these prospects, including detailed annual plans for NC Children’s leadership involvement and cross-institutional coordination.
+ Partner with NC Children’s leadership, Duke Health and UNC Health clinicians, and faculty to articulate bold, compelling cases for support transforming institutional priorities into inspiring investment opportunities.
+ Contribute to the design and execution of NC Children’s comprehensive campaign, ensuring transformational philanthropy efforts align with long-term institutional goals and measurable outcomes.
+ Coordinate closely with teammates across UNC Health, UNC Health Foundation, UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University and Duke Health to ensure unified engagement and solicitation strategies for shared transformational prospects.

Education Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
• None required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
• Requires a minimum of ten (10) years of development or philanthropy related experience, with at least seven (7) years of management experience.
• Experience in a Children’s Hospital, academic medical center, university or large college setting preferred.
• A successful track record in soliciting and closing transformational, principal, major, deferred and annual gifts as well as comprehensive campaign experience are required.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentational skills required.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills required.
• Demonstrated supervisory experience of fundraising staff required.
• Working knowledge of computer-related office tools and database management.
