    GENERAL DUTIES

    Conducts academic research in connection with CUNY programs; may assist faculty, staff, and students in conducting research and lead research efforts involving others.

     

    - Develops research plans and proposals and participates in acquiring funding

     

    - Collects, analyzes, and assures validity of data

     

    - Writes progress reports; writes and publishes findings

     

    - Collaborates with internal and external colleagues

     

    - Adheres to standards for safety and hygiene and ethical conduct as defined by the University and relevant outside parties

    CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

    The City University of New York (CUNY) School of Medicine (SoM) is the only medical school in the CUNY system. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CUNY SoM graduated its first MD class in 2020. In addition, the CUNY SoM offers a 28-months Physician Assistant (PA) program to prepare health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. Our mission is 1) to provide access to medical education to talented youth from historically underrepresented in backgrounds in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities and 2) to perform innovative research in community health and biomedicine.

     

    The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) was formed through the merger of several basic science departments and represents one of the four departments in the school (Community Health and Social Medicine, Medical Education, and Clinical Medicine). The department plays a critical role in our mission-driven BS/MD program and Physician Assistant program through the teaching of the basic science curriculum and by conducting extramurally funded research. The research agenda of the current members of the department is centered on neuroscience, microbiology and immunology, cardiovascular disease, and oncology.

     

    The Research Associate will support neuroscience research projects involving the study and manipulation of neural circuits, advanced behavioral assays, and calcium imaging analyses. Responsibilities include:

     

    + Performing animal care, surgical procedures, and genotyping

    + Conducting in situ hybridization and immunostaining

    + Designing and performing animal behavioral analyses

    + Carrying out calcium imaging and electrophysiological recordings

    + Assisting with data collection, analysis, and interpretation

    + Supporting other experimental procedures as needed to advance research objectives

    + Training and mentoring junior researchers, including postdoctoral fellows and students

    + Contributing to manuscript preparation, presentations, and grant-related activities as appropriate

     

    The Community Health and Social Medicine (CHASM) department curricular responsibilities include providing a comprehensive effort to educate our students in the social, economic, political and, behavioral determinants of health and disease, with a focus on population health, health disparities and health care policy. CHASM’s current research agenda is centered on chronic disease epidemiology, health behavior, health policy, health services and, community-based research.

    The CHASM Department is seeking a senior-level Research Associate to:

    + Serve as the lead data analyst across multiple research projects and conduct advanced statistical analyses.

    + Identify and advise on equity-related considerations in research design and data analysis.

    + Act as a statistical methods resource for departmental faculty by recommending appropriate methodologies aligned with project objectives.

    + Contribute to decision-making on study design and data collection to ensure alignment with research goals.

    + Develop analysis plans that clearly outline statistical methods consistent with study design, and assist in preparing statistical analysis sections for manuscripts and funding proposals.

    + Analyze research data in accordance with study protocols and maintain databases across multiple projects.

    + Oversee data management processes for departmental studies and support data analysis needs for student research projects.

    + Support the planning and coordination of periodic departmental research and equity roundtables to promote shared learning and collaboration among faculty.

     

    Please note: This posting is intended to fill multiple roles in two departments. Employees will not work across departments; each hire will be assigned to one designated department.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Doctoral Degree in a related field and demonstrated research ability.

    COMPENSATION

    Commensurate with qualifications and research experience.

     

    Salary Range: $59,890 - $90,000
