Our mission is to inspire readers by making it easy to read more and get more out of reading. In pursuit of this, our 60+ person global Design Studio provides the user research, UX design, and brand design for Kindle E-readers, Kindle apps for phones & tablets, Author & Publisher tools, and book shopping experiences used by millions of readers and thousands of authors around the world.
This role focuses on the Kindle Scribe device and will be designing experiences for a new base of customers. The person who will be successful in this role is excited about working with emerging technologies and thinks about design across hardware devices and surfaces.
About you
You think strategically and successfully collaborate with product managers, engineers, executives, and other designers, leading the design vision and project deliverables from sketches to working prototypes. You explore and translate complex interactions into simple, engaging solutions. You effectively communicate those solutions, both verbally and through sketches, user flows, wireframes, hi-fi mocks and functional prototypes. You are responsive, flexible and able to succeed in a fast-paced, collaborative environment without supervision. You are a systems-thinking, detail-oriented designer who wants to build and ship on a global scale.
Key job responsibilities
Create user-centered designs and workflows by considering customer feedback, metrics, and usability findings.
Use business requirements and customer research to assist in developing scenarios, use cases, and high-level requirements.
Design the visual style, interface, and interaction flow of applications and experiences.
Create conceptual diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups, click-throughs, and prototypes.
Define and maintain detailed user-interface specifications and design patterns.
Develop streamlined prioritization and work processes in collaboration with product and engineering partners.
Present design work to the design team, product stakeholders, and Amazon executives.
A day in the life
You partner with product owners and technical partners focussing on deeply understanding the product vision, technical limitations, and design solutions that meet the needs of our customers.
You attend a readout of user research updating our understanding of the differences between customers who take notes, those who annotate documents, and those who sketch in their notebooks for their jobs.
You lead a design critique with our team discussing the trade offs of an experience optimized for deep thinking vs an experience optimized for collaboration.
You are presenting your work with to leaders across organizations from Sr Manager to SVP.

Basic Qualifications
- 6+ years of design experience
- Have an available online portfolio
- Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and prototyping in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience applying scrum to visual or UX design processes
- Experience with UX design of complex workflows

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $211,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
