Contract Inpatient Coding Specialist – Remote | $28–$41/hr | 6-Month Contract | 6:00am–2:30pm

We're seeking an **Inpatient Coding Specialist** for a **6-month contract** with a competitive pay range of **$28.00–$41.00 per hour** . This role offers a steady daytime schedule— **6:00am to 2:30pm** —perfect for early birds who enjoy wrapping up their workday early.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you’ll play a key part in the revenue cycle by reviewing and interpreting medical record documentation to assign accurate and ethical ICD-10-CM/PCS codes. You will:
+ Review and assign ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient encounters
+ Determine accurate MS-DRG and APR-DRG groupings
+ Abstract required data elements per facility standards
+ Monitor Discharged Not Billed (DNB) accounts to ensure timely processing
+ Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Specialists and medical staff
+ Clarify missing or ambiguous documentation as needed
+ Ensure adherence to federal, state, CMS, CCI, HAC, PSI, NCD/LCD and hospital requirements
+ Maintain high standards of coding quality, accuracy, and productivity
+ Stay current with CMS regulations and coding guidelines
+ Work independently with excellent time-management and problem-solving skills
+ Utilize tools such as **Epic, 3M Coding & Reimbursement System, 3M CDIS, 3M Audit Expert, MS Office** , and more
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Your typical day will include:
+ Daily coding of **uncoded inpatient and interim accounts**
+ Following up on **missing documentation** or **DRG mismatches**
+ Completing **Query Clarifications**
+ Working within the **360e Solventum swimlane**
+ Reviewing and resolving **escalated review accounts**
What You Bring
+ **High School Diploma or GED**
+ Strong **Acute Care or Academic Medical Center coding experience**
+ Successful completion of the **Coder Proficiency Exam** (pre-hire)
+ Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4 conventions, DRG grouping logic (MS-DRG/APR-DRG), and CMS/CCI compliance
+ Ability to read and interpret clinical documentation
+ Strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, and decision-making skills
+ Excellent written and verbal communication
+ Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines independently
+ Strong collaboration skills across teams and clinical departments
+ Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes
+ Proficiency with health information systems and encoder tools
Software & Technology Requirements
+ **Required:** EPIC, 360e Solventum, Microsoft Teams Chat
+ **Must-Have Skill:** Prior experience with the **Coding to CDI Query process**
+ **Nice to Have:** **CDIP** credential
Preferred Education & Credentials
+ **RHIA** , **CCS** , or similar credentials (preferred)
Required Certifications (One of the Following):
+ **RHIA** – Registered Health Information Administrator
+ **RHIT** – Registered Health Information Technician
+ **CCS** – Certified Coding Specialist

**Pay Details:** $28.00 to $41.00 per hour
