    Job Summary

    + Responsible for field oversight and work planning of construction forestry-related activities.

    + Specifically responsible for oversight of clearing operations, sighting and marking danger trees, and directing and inspecting the work of contract crews to meet transmission line design requirements in the assigned Forestry region within the transmission system.

    + Works independently, usually scheduling own time without guidance.

    + Conducts field observations of danger tree cutting, clearing operations, and contractors to ensure that work is performed to design and ANSI standards.

    + Works under the oversight of the regional Forestry Coordinator, monitors crew productivity and provides input on work scheduling, construction sequencing, and planning.

    + Utilizes engineered plan and profiles to identify and plan danger tree removal.

    + Monitors and evaluates performance of tree contractors.

    + Reviews and approves contractor labor and equipment worksheets.

    + Resolves most customer complaints and issues independently, receiving guidance as needed or referring more complex/severe issues to the Forestry Coordinator.

    + Monitors placement of erosion control devices.

    + Receives ongoing training and advice from more experienced team members.

     

    Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

    The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

    **Transmission Forestry Specialist** **I** : 0-2+ years directly related experience.

    **Transmission Forestry Specialist II** : 4+ years of directly related experience and possession of the Arborist Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture.

    + Knowledge of utility arboriculture and forestry-related construction operations

    + Knowledge of ANSI safety standards and practices

    + Understanding of electrical principles and transmission circuitry

    + Understanding of accounting and contract administration

    + Skills: Effective written and oral communications, strong customer service, effective organizational and project management

    + Abilities: Demonstrated problem-solving and quick decision-making, setting priorities, working independently

    + Physical attributes required to perform essentials of the job include walking, climbing, stooping, bending, and hearing

    Education Requirements

    Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education

     

    _Preferred Discipline_ : Forestry

     

    Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred disciplines listed above.

    Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

    **Required for the Forestry Specialist II** : Retains current Arborist Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture and successful completion of the Environmental Protection Agencey's Construction General Permit Site Inspector certification.

     

    Working Conditions

     

    Travel 76- 100%

     

    Office Work Environment Up to 25%
